22 WHEREAS, Sergeant Gregg A. Greer is retiring from the Texas
33 Highway Patrol in Marshall on August 31, 2021, drawing to a close
44 an exemplary career in law enforcement that has spanned nearly 28
55 years; and
66 WHEREAS, A graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University
77 with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, Sergeant Greer
88 first joined the Texas Department of Public Safety in 1994; as a
99 member of the Texas Highway Patrol, he became involved in
1010 accident reconstruction and was eventually promoted to head of
1111 the Tyler district crash reconstruction team; over the years, he
1212 has responded to major incidents involving natural disasters,
1313 crowd management situations, and border operations, and he has
1414 provided expert testimony on vehicle crashes in multiple East
1515 Texas counties; moreover, he has embraced his role as a
1616 supervisor for troopers in Harrison and Marion Counties, and he
1717 has further served his agency by teaching courses on firearms,
1818 crash investigation, and crash reconstruction; and
1919 WHEREAS, Sergeant Greer was named a recipient of the
2020 Outstanding Rookie award by the Texas Conference of Police and
2121 Sheriffs in 1995, and he went on to be recognized with the Merit
2222 Law Enforcement Award in 1999 and with two District Service
2323 Commander's Awards in 2002 and 2004; committed to his
2424 professional development, he has also attained his master peace
2525 officer certification, as well as numerous other advanced
2626 credentials; and
2727 WHEREAS, Gregg Greer's expertise, professionalism, and
2828 dedication to the core values of the Department of Public Safety
2929 have greatly benefited the citizens of Texas and earned him the
3030 respect and admiration of his fellow officers, and he may indeed
3131 reflect with pride on a career well spent as he embarks on the
3232 next exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
3333 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3434 Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby congratulate Sergeant
3535 Gregg A. Greer on his retirement from the Texas Highway Patrol in
3636 Marshall and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future;
3737 and, be it further
3838 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
3939 prepared for Sergeant Greer as an expression of high regard from
4040 the Texas Senate.
