55 WHEREAS, Dr. Michael DiTeresa, a beloved physician and
66 cherished friend to many in the Tomball community, passed away on
77 June 6, 2020, his 46th birthday; and
88 WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Michael Anthony DiTeresa was
99 born on June 6, 1974, to Matt and Barbara DiTeresa and named after
1010 patron saints Michael and Anthony; he was adored by his late
1111 father and was raised in a close-knit family along with an older
1212 brother, Matt, and a younger sister, Marisa; his intellectual
1313 gifts were evident from an early age, and he went on to graduate
1414 summa cum laude from Rice University before studying medicine at
1515 The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas;
1616 after completing his residency at Baylor University Medical
1717 Center in Dallas, he embarked on a career in medicine that
1818 empowered him to make a positive and profound difference in the
1919 lives of others; and
2020 WHEREAS, Dr. DiTeresa opened his private medical practice
2121 in Tomball in 2004, and through the compassionate care he
2222 provided, he readily won the esteem of his patients, his fellow
2323 physicians, the nurses who worked alongside him, and countless
2424 individuals in and beyond the community; he was a doctor of
2525 immense enthusiasm, integrity, and ability, one who was ever
2626 sensitive to the unique circumstances of his patients and who
2727 always prioritized the needs of others ahead of his own; these
2828 traits earned him a reputation for excellence in his field; and
2929 WHEREAS, A man who had devoted his life to healing others,
3030 Dr. DiTeresa waged his own courageous battle with pancreatic
3131 cancer for 18 months, and from the support of those who rallied
3232 around him, he found the strength and inspiration to continue
3333 fighting every day; even as his battle drew to a close, he
3434 demonstrated concern for fellow health care workers serving on
3535 the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, for whom he had a great
3636 deal of respect and admiration; and
3737 WHEREAS, In addition to his exceptional achievements as a
3838 physician, Dr. DiTeresa will be remembered for the passions and
3939 interests that colored his life; he was an avid collector of
4040 cars, a prolific reader, and a U2 "superfan" who traveled across
4141 the world to see the band; he was also a scholar of the classics
4242 and of Roman history, and he sought to live according to the
4343 personal creed of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, "Strength and
4444 Honor"; moreover, he was deeply patriotic, and he was known for
4545 his strong Catholic faith; and
4646 WHEREAS, Though his journey on this earth ended much too
4747 soon, Dr. Michael DiTeresa created an inspiring legacy through
4848 his generosity, humility, and selfless service, and the memory of
4949 this extraordinary gentleman will forever light the hearts of
5050 those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
5151 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 87th Texas Legislature,
5252 2nd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Michael
5353 Anthony DiTeresa and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
5454 his family: to his mother, Barbara Ann DiTeresa; to his brother,
5555 Matthew Douglas DiTeresa; to his sister, Marisa Ann DiTeresa
5656 Wuttke; to his sister-in-law, Megan Elizabeth DiTeresa; to his
5757 brother-in-law, Axel Wuttke; to his nephews, Matthew Joseph and
5858 Anthony Christian DiTeresa and Max and Luke Wuttke; to his best
5959 friend, Paresh Patel; and to his other relatives and friends;
6060 and, be it further
6161 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
6262 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
6363 this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Michael DiTeresa.
