5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Michael DiTeresa, a beloved physician and |

6 | 6 | | cherished friend to many in the Tomball community, passed away on |

7 | 7 | | June 6, 2020, his 46th birthday; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Michael Anthony DiTeresa was |
---|
9 | 9 | | born on June 6, 1974, to Matt and Barbara DiTeresa and named after |
---|
10 | 10 | | patron saints Michael and Anthony; he was adored by his late |
---|
11 | 11 | | father and was raised in a close-knit family along with an older |
---|
12 | 12 | | brother, Matt, and a younger sister, Marisa; his intellectual |
---|
13 | 13 | | gifts were evident from an early age, and he went on to graduate |
---|
14 | 14 | | summa cum laude from Rice University before studying medicine at |
---|
15 | 15 | | The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas; |
---|
16 | 16 | | after completing his residency at Baylor University Medical |
---|
17 | 17 | | Center in Dallas, he embarked on a career in medicine that |
---|
18 | 18 | | empowered him to make a positive and profound difference in the |
---|
19 | 19 | | lives of others; and |

20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Dr. DiTeresa opened his private medical practice |
---|
21 | 21 | | in Tomball in 2004, and through the compassionate care he |
---|
22 | 22 | | provided, he readily won the esteem of his patients, his fellow |
---|
23 | 23 | | physicians, the nurses who worked alongside him, and countless |
---|
24 | 24 | | individuals in and beyond the community; he was a doctor of |
---|
25 | 25 | | immense enthusiasm, integrity, and ability, one who was ever |
---|
26 | 26 | | sensitive to the unique circumstances of his patients and who |
---|
27 | 27 | | always prioritized the needs of others ahead of his own; these |
---|
28 | 28 | | traits earned him a reputation for excellence in his field; and |
---|
29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, A man who had devoted his life to healing others, |
---|
30 | 30 | | Dr. DiTeresa waged his own courageous battle with pancreatic |
---|
31 | 31 | | cancer for 18 months, and from the support of those who rallied |
---|
32 | 32 | | around him, he found the strength and inspiration to continue |
---|
33 | 33 | | fighting every day; even as his battle drew to a close, he |
---|
34 | 34 | | demonstrated concern for fellow health care workers serving on |
---|
35 | 35 | | the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, for whom he had a great |
---|
36 | 36 | | deal of respect and admiration; and |
---|
37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, In addition to his exceptional achievements as a |
---|
38 | 38 | | physician, Dr. DiTeresa will be remembered for the passions and |
---|
39 | 39 | | interests that colored his life; he was an avid collector of |
---|
40 | 40 | | cars, a prolific reader, and a U2 "superfan" who traveled across |
---|
41 | 41 | | the world to see the band; he was also a scholar of the classics |
---|
42 | 42 | | and of Roman history, and he sought to live according to the |
---|
43 | 43 | | personal creed of Roman emperor Marcus Aurelius, "Strength and |
---|
44 | 44 | | Honor"; moreover, he was deeply patriotic, and he was known for |
---|
45 | 45 | | his strong Catholic faith; and |
---|
46 | 46 | | WHEREAS, Though his journey on this earth ended much too |
---|
47 | 47 | | soon, Dr. Michael DiTeresa created an inspiring legacy through |
---|
48 | 48 | | his generosity, humility, and selfless service, and the memory of |
---|
49 | 49 | | this extraordinary gentleman will forever light the hearts of |
---|
50 | 50 | | those he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it |

51 | 51 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the 87th Texas Legislature, |
