| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | recognize the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce on the occasion of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | its 84th anniversary; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Brownsville Chamber of Commerce was |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | officially incorporated in July of 1937; the incorporation |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | brought to fruition efforts that took place as early as 1914 in a |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | meeting of area businessmen; the organization was founded to |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | acquire, preserve, and disseminate valuable business |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | information, to promote the interests of trade, and to increase |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the facilities for commercial transactions; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, the chamber's initiatives have |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | been a catalyst for a wide range of community improvements and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | for the creation of numerous events and organizations; the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | chamber had a role in establishing Charro Days, the Sombrero |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Festival, the Mr. Amigo Association, Leadership Brownsville, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Brownsville Crime Stoppers, and Healthy Communities of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Brownsville; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The chamber has also provided invaluable support |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | for such institutions as Texas Southmost College, the Port of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Brownsville, the Brownsville South Padre Island International |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Airport, and the Brownsville Economic Development Council; the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | organization has received numerous awards for its marketing and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | communications and earned first place in digital media for the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | recent Dear Brownsville COVID-19 commercial spot; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, For 84 years, the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | has been the city's leading advocate for business, and it is |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | truly deserving of special recognition for its positive impact on |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the community; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, 2nd Called Session, hereby commend the Brownsville |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Chamber of Commerce on its many contributions to the growth and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | prosperity of Brownsville and extend to its members best wishes |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | for continued success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | the chamber as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
