5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
---|
6 | 6 | | citizens of Laredo and Rio Bravo in mourning the loss of Lance |
---|
7 | 7 | | Corporal David Lee Espinoza, who died in the line of duty while |
---|
8 | 8 | | serving in Afghanistan on August 26, 2021, at the age of 20; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, David Espinoza was born on July 10, 2001, in |
---|
10 | 10 | | Laredo, and he grew up in Rio Bravo; after earning his diploma |
---|
11 | 11 | | from Lyndon B. Johnson High School in 2019, he fulfilled his |
---|
12 | 12 | | lifelong dream of serving in the military, and he enlisted in the |
---|
13 | 13 | | United States Marine Corps; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Espinoza served the nation with |
---|
15 | 15 | | distinction and was stationed in Jordan for two years; he |
---|
16 | 16 | | transferred to Kabul, Afghanistan, only one week before he was |
---|
17 | 17 | | tragically killed in the August 26 terrorist attack at the Kabul |
---|
18 | 18 | | airport that claimed the lives of 13 members of the American |
---|
19 | 19 | | military forces and killed and injured many others; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The passing of such a promising young person has |
---|
21 | 21 | | had an impact far beyond the Rio Bravo community, and military |
---|
22 | 22 | | service members, members of law enforcement, and countless |
---|
23 | 23 | | citizens across the nation have expressed their condolences and |
---|
24 | 24 | | have shared their grief over this devastating loss; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, This heroic Marine was beloved by his family and |
---|
26 | 26 | | friends, who knew him as a kind, intelligent young man with a |
---|
27 | 27 | | quiet yet determined spirit and a generous heart; he was |
---|
28 | 28 | | dedicated to helping others and served as a volunteer in the Rio |
---|
29 | 29 | | Bravo community center to benefit those most vulnerable and in |
---|
30 | 30 | | need; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Left behind to honor his memory are his mother, |
---|
32 | 32 | | Elizabeth Holguin; his father, Vic Dominguez; his two brothers |
---|
33 | 33 | | and his sister; and a host of friends and loved ones who were |
---|
34 | 34 | | inspired by his strength, his courage, and his commitment to |
---|
35 | 35 | | service; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Espinoza was an American hero who |
---|
37 | 37 | | risked all to protect our country and his fellow citizens, and he |
---|
38 | 38 | | made the ultimate sacrifice while working to preserve this |
---|
39 | 39 | | country's freedom; his brave service on behalf of this nation |
---|
40 | 40 | | will not be forgotten, and his selfless spirit and strength have |
---|
41 | 41 | | left an indelible mark on the lives of all who were privileged to |
---|
42 | 42 | | know him; now, therefore, be it |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
44 | 44 | | Legislature,2nd Called Session, hereby extend our most sincere |
---|
45 | 45 | | and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Lance |
---|
46 | 46 | | Corporal David Lee Espinoza of Rio Bravo; and, be it further |
---|
47 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
---|
48 | 48 | | his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
---|
49 | 49 | | Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
---|
50 | 50 | | memory of U.S. Marine Lance Corporal David Espinoza. |
