44 SENATE RESOLUTION
55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Laredo and Rio Bravo in mourning the loss of Lance
77 Corporal David Lee Espinoza, who died in the line of duty while
88 serving in Afghanistan on August 26, 2021, at the age of 20; and
99 WHEREAS, David Espinoza was born on July 10, 2001, in
1010 Laredo, and he grew up in Rio Bravo; after earning his diploma
1111 from Lyndon B. Johnson High School in 2019, he fulfilled his
1212 lifelong dream of serving in the military, and he enlisted in the
1313 United States Marine Corps; and
1414 WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Espinoza served the nation with
1515 distinction and was stationed in Jordan for two years; he
1616 transferred to Kabul, Afghanistan, only one week before he was
1717 tragically killed in the August 26 terrorist attack at the Kabul
1818 airport that claimed the lives of 13 members of the American
1919 military forces and killed and injured many others; and
2020 WHEREAS, The passing of such a promising young person has
2121 had an impact far beyond the Rio Bravo community, and military
2222 service members, members of law enforcement, and countless
2323 citizens across the nation have expressed their condolences and
2424 have shared their grief over this devastating loss; and
2525 WHEREAS, This heroic Marine was beloved by his family and
2626 friends, who knew him as a kind, intelligent young man with a
2727 quiet yet determined spirit and a generous heart; he was
2828 dedicated to helping others and served as a volunteer in the Rio
2929 Bravo community center to benefit those most vulnerable and in
3030 need; and
3131 WHEREAS, Left behind to honor his memory are his mother,
3232 Elizabeth Holguin; his father, Vic Dominguez; his two brothers
3333 and his sister; and a host of friends and loved ones who were
3434 inspired by his strength, his courage, and his commitment to
3535 service; and
3636 WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Espinoza was an American hero who
3737 risked all to protect our country and his fellow citizens, and he
3838 made the ultimate sacrifice while working to preserve this
3939 country's freedom; his brave service on behalf of this nation
4040 will not be forgotten, and his selfless spirit and strength have
4141 left an indelible mark on the lives of all who were privileged to
4242 know him; now, therefore, be it
4343 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
4444 Legislature,2nd Called Session, hereby extend our most sincere
4545 and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family of Lance
4646 Corporal David Lee Espinoza of Rio Bravo; and, be it further
4747 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4848 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4949 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
5050 memory of U.S. Marine Lance Corporal David Espinoza.
