66 AN ACT
77 relating to a requirement that a redistricting plan for the
88 election of members of the United States House of Representatives
99 be based on the total population of the state.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Subtitle B, Title 3, Government Code, is amended
1212 by adding Chapter 319A to read as follows:
1313 CHAPTER 319A. CONGRESSIONAL REDISTRICTING
1414 Sec. 319A.001. CONGRESSIONAL REDISTRICTING PLAN BASED ON
1515 TOTAL POPULATION. The legislature must enact a redistricting plan
1616 for the election of the members of the United States House of
1717 Representatives elected from this state based on the total
1818 population of the state as ascertained by the most recent United
1919 States decennial census.
2020 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect on the 91st day after the
2121 last day of the legislative session.
