66 AN ACT
77 relating to a grant program to provide grants to law enforcement
88 agencies to equip certain motor vehicles with bullet-resistant
99 windshields.
1010 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
1111 SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 772, Government Code, is
1212 amended by adding Section 772.0079 to read as follows:
1313 Sec. 772.0079. BULLET-RESISTANT WINDSHIELD GRANT PROGRAM.
1414 (a) In this section, "criminal justice division" means the
1515 criminal justice division established under Section 772.006.
1616 (b) The criminal justice division shall establish and
1717 administer a grant program to provide financial assistance to a law
1818 enforcement agency in this state, other than the Department of
1919 Public Safety, for the purpose of equipping all motor vehicles used
2020 by officers of the agency in discharging the officers' official
2121 duties with bullet-resistant windshields.
2222 (c) The criminal justice division shall establish:
2323 (1) eligibility criteria for grant applicants;
2424 (2) grant application procedures;
2525 (3) guidelines relating to grant amounts;
2626 (4) procedures for evaluating grant applications; and
2727 (5) procedures for monitoring the use of a grant
2828 awarded under the program and ensuring compliance with any
2929 conditions of a grant.
3030 (d) Not later than December 1 of each year, the criminal
3131 justice division shall submit to the Legislative Budget Board a
3232 report that provides the following information for the preceding
3333 state fiscal year:
3434 (1) the name of each law enforcement agency that
3535 applied for a grant under this section; and
3636 (2) the amount of money distributed to each law
3737 enforcement agency that received a grant under this section.
3838 (e) The criminal justice division may use any revenue
3939 available for purposes of this section.
4040 SECTION 2. This Act takes effect February 1, 2022.
