| 10 | 10 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

| 11 | 11 | | SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 772, Government Code, is |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | amended by adding Section 772.0079 to read as follows: |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Sec. 772.0079. BULLET-RESISTANT WINDSHIELD GRANT PROGRAM. |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | (a) In this section, "criminal justice division" means the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | criminal justice division established under Section 772.006. |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | (b) The criminal justice division shall establish and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | administer a grant program to provide financial assistance to a law |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | enforcement agency in this state, other than the Department of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | Public Safety, for the purpose of equipping all motor vehicles used |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | by officers of the agency in discharging the officers' official |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | duties with bullet-resistant windshields. |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | (c) The criminal justice division shall establish: |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | (1) eligibility criteria for grant applicants; |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | (2) grant application procedures; |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | (3) guidelines relating to grant amounts; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | (4) procedures for evaluating grant applications; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (5) procedures for monitoring the use of a grant |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | awarded under the program and ensuring compliance with any |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | conditions of a grant. |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | (d) Not later than December 1 of each year, the criminal |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | justice division shall submit to the Legislative Budget Board a |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | report that provides the following information for the preceding |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | state fiscal year: |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | (1) the name of each law enforcement agency that |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | applied for a grant under this section; and |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | (2) the amount of money distributed to each law |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | enforcement agency that received a grant under this section. |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | (e) The criminal justice division may use any revenue |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | available for purposes of this section. |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | SECTION 2. This Act takes effect February 1, 2022. |
