8 | 9 | | Dr. Sanford has built a proven record of leadership and gained a |

9 | 10 | | wealth of experience from his service as dean of the institution's |

10 | 11 | | Constantin College of Liberal Arts and as provost; he has overseen |

11 | 12 | | all of the university's academic deans, as well as special outreach |
---|
12 | 13 | | projects such as the Studies in Catholic Faith and Culture program; |
---|
13 | 14 | | further, he played an instrumental role in the development of the |
---|
14 | 15 | | school's new strategic plan; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A highly respected figure in his field, Dr. Sanford |
---|
16 | 17 | | holds leadership positions in a number of professional and academic |
---|
17 | 18 | | organizations, including the Fellowship of Catholic Scholars and |
---|
18 | 19 | | the American Catholic Philosophical Association, and he is a Fellow |
---|
19 | 20 | | of the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture; he has published |
---|
20 | 21 | | numerous articles and book chapters on such topics as virtue theory |
---|
21 | 22 | | and metaphysics, and he is the author of the book Before Virtue: |

22 | 23 | | Assessing Contemporary Virtue Ethics; moreover, for the past three |
---|
23 | 24 | | years, he has hosted the "Good News at UD" portion of the Good News |

24 | 25 | | Show on Guadalupe Radio; and |

25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sanford graduated summa cum laude with a degree |
---|
26 | 27 | | in classical languages and philosophy from Xavier University and |
---|
27 | 28 | | received his doctorate in philosophy from the State University of |
---|
28 | 29 | | New York at Buffalo; he went on to complete a postdoctoral |
---|
29 | 30 | | fellowship at Fordham University; prior to joining the University |
---|
30 | 31 | | of Dallas, he served as associate vice president for academic |
---|
31 | 32 | | affairs and chair of philosophy at Franciscan University of |
---|
32 | 33 | | Steubenville, where he was also the principal elected faculty |
---|
33 | 34 | | representative; and |

34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Sanford enjoys the love |

35 | 36 | | and support of his wife, Rebecca, and he takes great pride in their |
---|
36 | 37 | | nine children and two granddaughters; he is a valued congregant of |
---|
37 | 38 | | St. Rita Catholic Church; and |
---|
38 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Sanford's dedication, professionalism, and |

39 | 40 | | expertise have greatly benefited countless people over the course |

40 | 41 | | of his distinguished career, and he may indeed reflect with pride on |

41 | 42 | | his many achievements as he takes on the challenges and |
---|
42 | 43 | | opportunities of his new role; now, therefore, be it |

43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas, |
