5	6		WHEREAS, Kenneth M. Jastrow II and Susan Thomas Jastrow have
6	7		been recognized with the Santa Rita Award for their exceptional
7	8		commitment to The University of Texas at Austin; and
8	9		WHEREAS, Established in 1968, the Santa Rita Award is the
9	10		highest honor bestowed by the UT System Board of Regents; the award
10	11		is given to individuals or organizations whose philanthropy and
11	12		service have greatly furthered the mission of UT institutions and
12	13		the cause of higher education; and
13	14		WHEREAS, Kenny Jastrow is the former chair and CEO of
14	15		Temple-Inland, Inc.; he has served his alma mater, UT Austin,
15	16		through leadership roles on a number of boards, commissions, and
16	17		committees, including as chair of the historic Commission of 125,
17	18		which was created to commemorate the campus's 125th anniversary,
18	19		and as chair of the $3 billion Campaign for Texas in 2013; he
19	20		recently led the Special Advisory Committee for UT Austin's
20	21		presidential search that resulted in the appointment of President
21	22		Jay Hartzell; and
22	23		WHEREAS, Over the years, Mr. Jastrow has been presented with
23	24		such accolades as the Distinguished Alumnus Award, the Presidential
24	25		Citation, the Mirabeau B. Lamar Medal, and the Legion of Honor Award
25	26		by Phi Delta Theta, in addition to being inducted into the McCombs
26	27		School of Business's Hall of Fame; and
27	28		WHEREAS, Susie Jastrow, a registered dietitian and diabetes
28	29		educator, is the founder of the Nutrition Education Program within
29	30		People's Community Clinic, a health care provider for uninsured and
30	31		medically underserved residents of Austin; she was also
31	32		instrumental in the establishment of the UT Austin Nutrition
32	33		Institute, and she has given generously of her time to the Blanton
33	34		Museum of Art National Leadership Board, the Natural Sciences
34	35		Foundation Advisory Council, and the Human Ecology School Advisory
35	36		Council; and
36	37		WHEREAS, Recognized as Alumna of the Year by the Texas Exes in
37	38		2006, Ms. Jastrow was also honored with its Community Service Award
38	39		in Human Ecology, and in 2017, the Susie Jastrow Teaching Kitchen
39	40		was dedicated on the campus at UT Austin; together with
40	41		Mr. Jastrow, she takes special pride in having launched Subiendo:
41	42		The Academy for Rising Leaders, a youth leadership program that is
42	43		hosted by the McCombs School; and
43	44		WHEREAS, Through their tremendous generosity and support for
44	45		The University of Texas at Austin, Kenneth and Susan Jastrow have
45	46		elevated its reputation as a world-class center of higher learning,
46	47		and they are indeed deserving recipients of the UT System's most
47	48		prestigious award; now, therefore, be it
48	49		RESOLVED, That the 87th Legislature of the State of Texas,
49	50		3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Kenneth and Susan Jastrow
50	51		on their receipt of the Santa Rita Award by The University of Texas
51	52		System Board of Regents and extend to them sincere appreciation for
52	53		their far-reaching contributions; and, be it further
53	54		RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
54	55		prepared for the Jastrows as an expression of high regard by the
55	56		Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
