| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Each year, the Children First Counseling Center of |

| 6 | 7 | | Grand Prairie hosts its Little Lunch of HOPE to raise funds for the |

| 7 | 8 | | agency's important work; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1977, Children First initially |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | operated as Family Outreach, a volunteer organization that |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | performed case management for the Texas Department of Protective |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | and Regulatory Services; its mission evolved to encompass |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | professional counseling and therapy services for victims of abuse, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | and as it separated from the state, it incorporated under its |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | present-day name to better reflect its focus and services; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Today, Children First is a nonprofit agency |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | providing counseling services by a diverse staff of licensed |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | therapists with master's degrees; it accepts clients age three and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | older, including adults, who reside in Grand Prairie and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | surrounding areas in Dallas and Tarrant Counties; most are eligible |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | for care at little to no cost, thanks to funding from such sources |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | as government grants, donations, and the United Way; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The agency is dedicated to ending the cycle of child |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | abuse and family violence and supports mental health in a variety of |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | ways; in addition to the state-accredited Batterers Intervention |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | and Prevention Program, it offers specialized adolescent services |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | and general counseling for a range of issues, from grief, anxiety, |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | and depression to trauma and stress; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Through its endeavors, Children First has made a |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | positive difference in the lives of countless Texans, and in so |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | doing, it has helped to strengthen area families and communities; |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the Children |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | First Counseling Center's annual Little Lunch of HOPE and extend to |

| 35 | 36 | | all those associated with the organization sincere best wishes for |
