| 8 | 9 | | commemorates Dieciséis de Septiembre, an important holiday for many |

| 9 | 10 | | Texans of Mexican descent; and |

| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Dieciséis de Septiembre commemorates the day in 1810 |

| 11 | 12 | | when Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, the parish priest for the |

| 12 | 13 | | town of Dolores, issued the call to action that ultimately led to |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Mexico's independence from colonial Spanish rule; Father Hidalgo's |

| 14 | 15 | | proclamation came to be known as El Grito, or the Cry of Dolores, |

| 15 | 16 | | and in 1825, the Republic of Mexico officially declared Dieciséis |

| 16 | 17 | | de Septiembre as the nation's independence day; and |

| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The Fiestas Patrias event in Grand Prairie features |

| 18 | 19 | | performances by mariachi bands and folkloric dancers, and attendees |
