| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, GPUC was established by former city council member |

| 9 | 10 | | Richard Fregoe in 2004 with the worthwhile goal of promoting |

| 10 | 11 | | awareness, inclusiveness, and community spirit through education |

|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, the diverse membership of GPUC |

| 13 | 14 | | has fostered cross-cultural understanding through its |

| 14 | 15 | | participation in many events, including the Martin Luther King |

| 15 | 16 | | Jr. Day parade and program, the Cinco de Mayo parade, a Native |

| 16 | 17 | | American powwow, and the annual Juneteenth parade; the group has |

| 17 | 18 | | also collaborated with area businesses and with such organizations |

| 18 | 19 | | as the NAACP and LULAC; as a result of the coalition's work, the |

| 19 | 20 | | City of Grand Prairie was acknowledged as an Inclusive City by the |

| 20 | 21 | | National League of Cities in 2006; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The annual Unity Fundraiser Banquet is GPUC's |

| 22 | 23 | | signature event, and it provides sponsors and attendees with the |

| 23 | 24 | | opportunity to help advance the coalition's mission through |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | charitable donations; over the years, the banquet has featured a |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | number of notable civic leaders as keynote speakers; and |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Grand Prairie Unity Coalition |

| 27 | 28 | | have proven themselves to be effective advocates in their efforts |

| 28 | 29 | | to build a more unified community, and the organization is indeed |

| 29 | 30 | | worthy of commendation for its many valuable contributions; now, |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
