| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Cinco de Mayo commemorates May 5, 1862, when the |

| 10 | 11 | | Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War; over time, the holiday has |

| 11 | 12 | | grown into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, and it has |

| 12 | 13 | | gained a great deal of popularity in Mexican American communities; |

| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The Cinco de Mayo event in Grand Prairie kicks off |

| 15 | 16 | | with a parade through the city's downtown area and also features an |

| 16 | 17 | | assortment of food and entertainment, including performances from |

| 17 | 18 | | mariachi bands and folklorico dancers; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Every year, residents and visitors flock to Grand |

| 19 | 20 | | Prairie's Cinco de Mayo celebration to share in the vibrant |

| 20 | 21 | | traditions that help define Mexican culture, and this occasion |

| 21 | 22 | | provides a fitting opportunity to recognize the many ways that the |

| 22 | 23 | | community is enriched by the contributions of Mexican Americans; |
