45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, For many years, Grand Prairie has hosted a Cinco de
67 Mayo parade and festival that has become a beloved tradition for
78 residents from all walks of life; and
89 WHEREAS, Cinco de Mayo commemorates May 5, 1862, when the
910 Mexican army achieved victory over French forces at the Battle of
1011 Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War; over time, the holiday has
1112 grown into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, and it has
1213 gained a great deal of popularity in Mexican American communities;
1314 and
1415 WHEREAS, The Cinco de Mayo event in Grand Prairie kicks off
1516 with a parade through the city's downtown area and also features an
1617 assortment of food and entertainment, including performances from
1718 mariachi bands and folklorico dancers; and
1819 WHEREAS, Every year, residents and visitors flock to Grand
1920 Prairie's Cinco de Mayo celebration to share in the vibrant
2021 traditions that help define Mexican culture, and this occasion
2122 provides a fitting opportunity to recognize the many ways that the
2223 community is enriched by the contributions of Mexican Americans;
2324 now, therefore, be it
2425 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
2526 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate Grand
2627 Prairie's Cinco de Mayo Parade and Celebration and extend to its
2728 organizers sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
2829 further
2930 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3031 prepared for the City of Grand Prairie as an expression of high
3132 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
