| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Coordinated by the Arlington Martin Luther King, Jr. |

| 9 | 10 | | Celebration Committee, the four-day-long event is one of the |

| 10 | 11 | | largest celebrations of its kind in the State of Texas; for more |

| 11 | 12 | | than 30 years, it has brought together area residents to reflect on |

| 12 | 13 | | the enduring influence of America's foremost civil rights icon, |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | while affirming their commitment to carrying forward his legacy by |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | creating lasting change in their community; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, The event features a presentation of scholarships to |

| 16 | 17 | | essay and art contest winners, as well as a step show that includes |

| 17 | 18 | | drum lines from local school marching bands, spoken word |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | performances, and an ecumenical service; on the final day, |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | attendees are encouraged to participate in the MLK Day of Service by |

| 20 | 21 | | taking part in volunteer projects; and |

| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Advancing the Dream |
