| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Arlington Independence Day Parade is the oldest |

| 7 | 8 | | years, it has become a highly anticipated local tradition; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Started by Dottie Lynn and Church Women United in |

| 9 | 10 | | 1965, the first parade was a charming, homespun affair featuring |

| 10 | 11 | | children on bicycles decorated with red, white, and blue, riding |

| 11 | 12 | | through Randol Mill Park; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, In the decades since, the event has grown into a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | grand, two-mile parade that winds through Arlington's downtown as |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | well as the College Park District at The University of Texas at |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Arlington; the parade's more than 150 entries include homemade and |

| 16 | 17 | | professionally built floats created by businesses, nonprofit |

| 17 | 18 | | organizations, churches, and youth groups, accompanied by the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | stirring rhythm of marching bands from the city's high schools; and |

| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The parade is organized by the Arlington 4th of July |

| 20 | 21 | | Association, and it benefits from the generosity of its sponsors; |

| 21 | 22 | | drawing some 75,000 spectators, the event has featured many notable |

| 22 | 23 | | local celebrities as grand marshal, and each year, the parade is |
