| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The City of Arlington is hosting its annual Holiday |

| 6 | 7 | | Lights Parade, providing a fitting opportunity to pay tribute to |

| 7 | 8 | | this longstanding community celebration; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Arlington's first Christmas tree lighting event, |

| 9 | 10 | | which was held in 1993, featured a musical revue, and over the next |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | decade, the city experimented with different ways of bringing Santa |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | to town, including riding in on a longhorn steer, rappelling off the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | roof of city hall, and arriving by helicopter; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In 2002, the city staged the first Parade of Lights |

| 14 | 15 | | with the assistance of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce and the 4th |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | of July Parade Association; by 2004, the annual event encompassed |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | nearly 60 parade participants, as well as strolling carolers, |

| 17 | 18 | | musical performances, and a laser light show, culminating in the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | lighting of the Christmas tree; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Now officially known as the Holiday Lights Parade, |

| 20 | 21 | | the event draws thousands of people each year, and it features more |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | than 100 parade entries, including elaborate floats, a marching |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | band, acrobats, and other participants; the celebration begins in |

| 23 | 24 | | the afternoon with music and food vendors as well as games for |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | children, followed by the parade and tree-lighting ceremony, after |

| 25 | 26 | | which children have the opportunity to have their pictures taken |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | with Santa; the evening is capped with an outdoor screening of a |
|---|

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Arlington Holiday Lights |

| 31 | 32 | | community tradition; now, therefore, be it |
