8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, This notable accolade is given annually to recognize |

9 | 10 | | the top economic development organization from around the globe; |

10 | 11 | | with more than 5,000 members, the nonprofit IEDC is the largest |

11 | 12 | | entity of its kind and seeks to promote initiatives that increase |
---|
12 | 13 | | economic prosperity and development in communities of all sizes and |
---|
13 | 14 | | at every level of government; and |

14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of chief executive officer Jon |

15 | 16 | | Barela, the Borderplex Alliance has helped create over 15,000 jobs |

16 | 17 | | since 2013 while bringing in more than $1.2 billion in investments |

17 | 18 | | to its service areas of El Paso, Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, and |

18 | 19 | | Las Cruces, New Mexico; it has also assisted in establishing 4,000 |

19 | 20 | | jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic; in 2020, the alliance was |

20 | 21 | | instrumental in recruiting an Amazon fulfillment center and a |

21 | 22 | | T.J. Maxx distribution center to El Paso, and it is developing a |

22 | 23 | | strategy for electric vehicle production while competing for major |
---|
23 | 24 | | industrial projects in the aerospace and consumer electronics |
---|
24 | 25 | | manufacturing industries; and |

25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Among its services, Borderplex supports business |

26 | 27 | | operations by arranging consultations with government leaders and |
---|
27 | 28 | | licensed professionals in the U.S. and Mexico; furthermore, the |

28 | 29 | | alliance plans and coordinates location scouting, conducts site |
---|
29 | 30 | | selection analysis, and connects companies to vendors, suppliers, |
---|
30 | 31 | | and contract manufacturers; it also provides businesses with the |
---|
31 | 32 | | most current information related to climate, labor force, |
---|
32 | 33 | | infrastructure, taxation, and other relevant issues; and |

33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, The Borderplex Alliance has helped contribute to the |

34 | 35 | | economic vitality of the Lone Star State, and its receipt of this |

35 | 36 | | prestigious recognition is a testament to its success and to the |

36 | 37 | | significant role it plays in the El Paso community and beyond; now, |
