8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The daughter of Daisy Lee Monroe and Frank Lawson |

9 | 10 | | Johnson, the former Eleanor Johnson was born in Austin on May 18, |
---|
10 | 11 | | 1942; a talented artist from an early age, she presented her work in |
---|
11 | 12 | | an exhibit at Laguna Gloria Art Museum; she also participated in |
---|
12 | 13 | | numerous extracurricular activities while attending L. C. Anderson |
---|
13 | 14 | | High School; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, On June 6, 1959, she married Rudell Roe Jr., with |
---|
15 | 16 | | whom she shared a fulfilling union that spanned more than six |
---|
16 | 17 | | decades; the couple became the proud parents of two children, |
---|
17 | 18 | | Phyllis Marie and the late Darryl Gerard Roe; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Roe began her career with Tracor, where she |
---|
19 | 20 | | became the first Black supervisor of advertising and distribution; |
---|
20 | 21 | | subsequently, she joined Atlanta Life Insurance Company as a |
---|
21 | 22 | | cashier and bookkeeper, and she went on to serve as an assistant |
---|
22 | 23 | | cashier officer at Austin National Bank; she was later employed |
---|
23 | 24 | | with the Texas State Treasury, where she distinguished herself as |
---|
24 | 25 | | the first Black female division director and served under three |
---|
25 | 26 | | state treasurers, Ann Richards, Kay Bailey Hutchison, and Martha |
---|
26 | 27 | | Whitehead, before embarking on a rewarding tenure as the office |
---|
27 | 28 | | manager for Allergy and Asthma Consultants; and |

28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, Mrs. Roe was active in |

29 | 30 | | several congregations over the years, including Rehoboth Primitive |
---|
30 | 31 | | Baptist Church and Mt. Zion Baptist Church; in 1996, she and her |
---|
31 | 32 | | family joined Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she was involved in |
---|
32 | 33 | | Mission 1, Women in Motion, Mount Olive Senior Saints, and the First |
---|
33 | 34 | | Impressions Ministry; in her leisure time, she enjoyed bowling and |
---|
34 | 35 | | going fishing with her husband; and |
---|
35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Admired for her kindness, enthusiasm, and |
---|
36 | 37 | | generosity, Eleanor Roe brightened the world for all who knew her, |
---|
37 | 38 | | and they will forever hold her close in their hearts; now, |
---|
38 | 39 | | therefore, be it |

39 | 40 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

40 | 41 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |

41 | 42 | | Eleanor Clarice Johnson Roe and extend sincere condolences to her |

42 | 43 | | loved ones; and, be it further |

43 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
