45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Eleanor Clarice Johnson Roe of Austin on September 13,
78 2021, at the age of 79; and
89 WHEREAS, The daughter of Daisy Lee Monroe and Frank Lawson
910 Johnson, the former Eleanor Johnson was born in Austin on May 18,
1011 1942; a talented artist from an early age, she presented her work in
1112 an exhibit at Laguna Gloria Art Museum; she also participated in
1213 numerous extracurricular activities while attending L. C. Anderson
1314 High School; and
1415 WHEREAS, On June 6, 1959, she married Rudell Roe Jr., with
1516 whom she shared a fulfilling union that spanned more than six
1617 decades; the couple became the proud parents of two children,
1718 Phyllis Marie and the late Darryl Gerard Roe; and
1819 WHEREAS, Mrs. Roe began her career with Tracor, where she
1920 became the first Black supervisor of advertising and distribution;
2021 subsequently, she joined Atlanta Life Insurance Company as a
2122 cashier and bookkeeper, and she went on to serve as an assistant
2223 cashier officer at Austin National Bank; she was later employed
2324 with the Texas State Treasury, where she distinguished herself as
2425 the first Black female division director and served under three
2526 state treasurers, Ann Richards, Kay Bailey Hutchison, and Martha
2627 Whitehead, before embarking on a rewarding tenure as the office
2728 manager for Allergy and Asthma Consultants; and
2829 WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, Mrs. Roe was active in
2930 several congregations over the years, including Rehoboth Primitive
3031 Baptist Church and Mt. Zion Baptist Church; in 1996, she and her
3132 family joined Mount Olive Baptist Church, where she was involved in
3233 Mission 1, Women in Motion, Mount Olive Senior Saints, and the First
3334 Impressions Ministry; in her leisure time, she enjoyed bowling and
3435 going fishing with her husband; and
3536 WHEREAS, Admired for her kindness, enthusiasm, and
3637 generosity, Eleanor Roe brightened the world for all who knew her,
3738 and they will forever hold her close in their hearts; now,
3839 therefore, be it
3940 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4041 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
4142 Eleanor Clarice Johnson Roe and extend sincere condolences to her
4243 loved ones; and, be it further
4344 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4445 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4546 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Eleanor
4647 Roe.
