45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The L. Clifford Davis Legal Association in Fort
67 Worth has demonstrated a strong commitment to supporting African
78 American legal professionals and advocating for equality and
89 diversity; and
910 WHEREAS, The organization traces its roots back to 1977, when
1011 a group of 14 African American attorneys formed the Fort Worth Black
1112 Bar Association to address injustices in the legal system as well as
1213 in the wider community; as the organization expanded its reach, it
1314 changed its name to the Tarrant County Black Bar Association; in
1415 2012, it became the L. Clifford Davis Legal Association in honor of
1516 retired Texas senior district judge L. Clifford Davis, who played
1617 an important role in the desegregation of the Mansfield and Fort
1718 Worth school districts; and
1819 WHEREAS, Since its inception, LCDLA has supported a number of
1920 worthy causes, such as those related to housing, employment,
2021 voting, education, and civil rights; today, the association
2122 benefits from the able leadership of president Christopher Tolbert,
2223 and its many initiatives include mentorship programs, continuing
2324 legal education courses, expunction clinics, legal summer camps for
2425 youths, and community service opportunities; and
2526 WHEREAS, The L. Clifford Davis Legal Association has worked
2627 to further the professional goals of African American attorneys and
2728 to make the justice system more responsive to the needs of the
2829 African American community, and the members of this outstanding
2930 organization are indeed deserving of special recognition for their
3031 many achievements; now, therefore, be it
3132 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3233 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor the L. Clifford Davis
3334 Legal Association for its contributions to the community and extend
3435 to its members sincere best wishes for continued success in their
3536 endeavors; and, be it further
3637 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3738 prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
3839 Texas House of Representatives.
