5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their |

6 | 7 | | memories of David James Weakley, who passed away on September 4, |

7 | 8 | | 2021, at the age of 63; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, David Weakley was born in Pekin, Illinois, on |
---|
9 | 10 | | January 7, 1958, to Richard and Mildred Weakley, and he enjoyed the |
---|
10 | 11 | | companionship of four siblings, Jonathan, Judith, Sandra, and |
---|
11 | 12 | | Barbara; he grew up in Pekin and Streator, Illinois, and went on to |
---|
12 | 13 | | graduate from Streator Township High School in 1976; shortly |
---|
13 | 14 | | thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he |
---|
14 | 15 | | served until transferring to the U.S. Navy; after his time in the |
---|
15 | 16 | | military, he attended Rock Valley College in Rockford, Illinois, |
---|
16 | 17 | | earning his associate degree as well as his airframe and powerplant |
---|
17 | 18 | | certification; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Following in his father's footsteps, Mr. Weakley |
---|
19 | 20 | | worked at Powerton Station with Commonwealth Edison for nearly 20 |
---|
20 | 21 | | years, before relocating to Texas in 2001; he married the love of |
---|
21 | 22 | | his life, the former Melissa Reeh, in 2002, and he was blessed with |
---|
22 | 23 | | a cherished family that included his three sons, Jamison, Elijah, |
---|
23 | 24 | | and Joel; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, For the last decade and a half, Mr. Weakley resided |
---|
25 | 26 | | in Hunt County, and he was employed by L3 Communications Integrated |
---|
26 | 27 | | Systems for 13 years, until his retirement in January 2020; a man of |
---|
27 | 28 | | strong faith, he was a staunch conservative who was a founding |
---|
28 | 29 | | officer of the Texas Liberty Defenders group; he actively attended |
---|
29 | 30 | | and hosted rallies and political events, and he even visited the |
---|
30 | 31 | | State Capitol to testify at hearings and engage with his elected |
---|
31 | 32 | | representatives; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Weakley counted hunting, |
---|
33 | 34 | | camping, fishing, boating, and cycling as some of his favorite |
---|
34 | 35 | | hobbies; he was also a skilled gunsmith who liked going to the |
---|
35 | 36 | | shooting range, and he was fond of watching classic movies and |
---|
36 | 37 | | learning about military and world history; and |
---|
37 | 38 | | WHEREAS, Although David Weakley is deeply missed, those who |
---|
38 | 39 | | were privileged to share in his love and friendship will always |
---|
39 | 40 | | remember him with great admiration and affection; now, therefore, |
---|
40 | 41 | | be it |

41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
42 | 43 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
---|
43 | 44 | | David James Weakley and extend sincere sympathy to the members of |

44 | 45 | | his family: to his wife, Melissa Reeh-Weakley; to his sons, |

45 | 46 | | Jamison, Elijah, and Joel Weakley; to his siblings, Jonathan |

46 | 47 | | Weakley and his wife, Susan, Judith Loy, Sandra Weghorst and her |
