45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends will forever treasure their
67 memories of David James Weakley, who passed away on September 4,
78 2021, at the age of 63; and
89 WHEREAS, David Weakley was born in Pekin, Illinois, on
910 January 7, 1958, to Richard and Mildred Weakley, and he enjoyed the
1011 companionship of four siblings, Jonathan, Judith, Sandra, and
1112 Barbara; he grew up in Pekin and Streator, Illinois, and went on to
1213 graduate from Streator Township High School in 1976; shortly
1314 thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he
1415 served until transferring to the U.S. Navy; after his time in the
1516 military, he attended Rock Valley College in Rockford, Illinois,
1617 earning his associate degree as well as his airframe and powerplant
1718 certification; and
1819 WHEREAS, Following in his father's footsteps, Mr. Weakley
1920 worked at Powerton Station with Commonwealth Edison for nearly 20
2021 years, before relocating to Texas in 2001; he married the love of
2122 his life, the former Melissa Reeh, in 2002, and he was blessed with
2223 a cherished family that included his three sons, Jamison, Elijah,
2324 and Joel; and
2425 WHEREAS, For the last decade and a half, Mr. Weakley resided
2526 in Hunt County, and he was employed by L3 Communications Integrated
2627 Systems for 13 years, until his retirement in January 2020; a man of
2728 strong faith, he was a staunch conservative who was a founding
2829 officer of the Texas Liberty Defenders group; he actively attended
2930 and hosted rallies and political events, and he even visited the
3031 State Capitol to testify at hearings and engage with his elected
3132 representatives; and
3233 WHEREAS, An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Weakley counted hunting,
3334 camping, fishing, boating, and cycling as some of his favorite
3435 hobbies; he was also a skilled gunsmith who liked going to the
3536 shooting range, and he was fond of watching classic movies and
3637 learning about military and world history; and
3738 WHEREAS, Although David Weakley is deeply missed, those who
3839 were privileged to share in his love and friendship will always
3940 remember him with great admiration and affection; now, therefore,
4041 be it
4142 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4243 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
4344 David James Weakley and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
4445 his family: to his wife, Melissa Reeh-Weakley; to his sons,
4546 Jamison, Elijah, and Joel Weakley; to his siblings, Jonathan
4647 Weakley and his wife, Susan, Judith Loy, Sandra Weghorst and her
4748 husband, Joe, and Barbara Gray and her husband, Ron; and to his many
4849 other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4950 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5051 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5152 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of David
5253 Weakley.
