45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Major General Robert J. Bodisch is retiring as
67 commanding general of the Texas State Guard in October 2021,
78 drawing to a close an outstanding career in the service of his state
89 and nation that has spanned more than a half century; and
910 WHEREAS, From 1969 to 1973, General Bodisch served in the
1011 U.S. Marine Corps, and from 1973 to 1979, he was a member of the
1112 Marine Corps and Navy Reserve; he first joined the TXSG in August
1213 1988 at the rank of captain, and over the course of his exemplary
1314 33-year tenure with the guard, his assignments have included
1415 personnel director at the guard headquarters, executive officer of
1516 the 6th Military Police Regiment, commander of the 601st Military
1617 Police Battalion, and commander of the battalion's Company A; from
1718 2009 to 2013, he was commander of the Texas Maritime Regiment before
1819 becoming deputy commanding general of the guard; promoted to major
1920 general in 2014, he has been commander of the TXSG since January
2021 2019; and
2122 WHEREAS, General Bodisch's active duty deployments within
2223 the state have included responding to Hurricanes Dean, Gustav,
2324 Dolly, Edouard, Ike, and Harvey, and he played a leading role in
2425 developing the guard's Maritime Regiment Dive Team and its Cadaver
2526 Search and Rescue Program; he is a graduate of the U.S. Army basic
2627 and advanced military police officer courses and of the Joint Task
2728 Force Commander Training Course; and
2829 WHEREAS, In civilian life, General Bodisch has been a law
2930 enforcement professional since 1973, and he recently retired as
3031 deputy director of Homeland Security and Services for the Texas
3132 Department of Public Safety; he served two years in Iraq with the
3233 U.S. Department of Justice International Criminal Investigative
3334 Training Assistance Program, earning the Joint Civilian Service
3435 Commendation Medal from the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff
3536 and the U.S. Army Outstanding Civilian Service Medal; he holds a
3637 bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of
3738 Houston and a master's degree in quality systems management from
3839 The National Graduate School of Quality Management in
3940 Massachusetts, and he is a licensed master peace officer with more
4041 than 6,800 hours of training; and
4142 WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, General Bodisch enjoys the
4243 love and support of his wife, Charisse Canfield, and his four sons,
4344 Robert, Kenneth, James, and Joseph; and
4445 WHEREAS, Robert Bodisch's dedication, skill, and experience
4546 have greatly benefited his fellow Texans and earned him the respect
4647 and admiration of his comrades in arms, and he may indeed take pride
4748 in his outstanding record of service as he embarks on the next
4849 exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it
4950 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
5051 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Major General
5152 Robert J. Bodisch on his retirement as commander of the Texas State
5253 Guard and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success
5354 and happiness; and, be it further
5455 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5556 prepared for General Bodisch as an expression of high regard by the
5657 Texas House of Representatives.
