45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Adri Perez, a lifelong El Pasoan and a policy and
67 advocacy strategist for the American Civil Liberties Union of
78 Texas, has done commendable work focused on social justice issues
89 affecting the state's LGBTQIA+ communities; and
910 WHEREAS, Born in El Paso and raised in that city and in
1011 neighboring Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, Adri Perez graduated with
1112 bachelor's degrees in biochemistry and secondary education from The
1213 University of Texas at El Paso and was recognized as the Texas
1314 Rising 2015 Organizer of the Year while attending UTEP; this
1415 determined activist went on to establish West Fund, the first fund
1516 dedicated to providing access to abortions and reproductive choices
1617 for residents of West Texas, and has further worked to raise money
1718 for individuals in immigrant detention facilities as a cofounder of
1819 the Fronterizx Fianza Fund; other organizations that have benefited
1920 from Adri's involvement have included Ngage New Mexico, Fund Texas
2021 Choice, and YWCA El Paso Del Norte Region; and
2122 WHEREAS, Since joining the ACLU of Texas in 2018, Adri has led
2223 the organization's Sexuality & Gender Equality Team; their
2324 responsibilities include representing ACLU of Texas in statewide
2425 coalitions, training and educating the families of children who
2526 identify as transgender, and advocating on legislative bills
2627 impacting Texas' transgender community; recognized as an
2728 outstanding leader and advocate, Adri has earned such accolades as
2829 the Rising Star Award from the League of Women Voters of El Paso and
2930 the Golden Girl Award from the El Paso Queer Bar Association; and
3031 WHEREAS, By championing the voices of the marginalized, Adri
3132 Perez has been a force for progressive change in West Texas and
3233 beyond and serves as a powerful role model for other aspiring
3334 activists; now, therefore, be it
3435 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3536 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Adri Perez for
3637 working in behalf of the LGBTQIA+ communities in Texas; and, be it
3738 further
3839 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3940 prepared for Adri Perez as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4041 House of Representatives.
