45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Emmett Schelling has been a leader in the fight for
67 social justice for members of the LGBTQIA+ communities in Texas,
78 and his efforts have made a positive difference in numerous lives;
89 and
910 WHEREAS, Mr. Schelling is the executive director of the
1011 Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT), a nonprofit
1112 organization dedicated to furthering gender-diverse equality; in
1213 that role, he advocates at the municipal and state levels in behalf
1314 of individuals who identify as transgender or as gender
1415 nonconforming, and he promotes equity through a variety of
1516 educational programs for political leaders, medical and legal
1617 professionals, social workers, students, and parents; and
1718 WHEREAS, In addition to his work with TENT, Mr. Schelling
1819 serves on the Transform Houston Community Council and the Deeds Not
1920 Words board, and he is codirector of TransFORWARD, a statewide
2021 transgender-focused research collective; he previously served as
2122 president of the San Antonio Gender Association; over the course of
2223 his career, he has been featured in numerous media outlets,
2324 including Newsweek, Refinery29, The Hill, Slate, and HuffPost; and
2425 WHEREAS, Through his myriad endeavors, Emmett Schelling has
2526 helped further inclusion and equality in the Lone Star State, and he
2627 may indeed reflect with pride on his many noteworthy
2728 accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
2829 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
2930 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Emmett Schelling
3031 for his service to the LGBTQIA+ communities of Texas and extend to
3132 him sincere best wishes for continued success in his important
3233 work; and, be it further
3334 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3435 prepared for Mr. Schelling as an expression of high regard by the
3536 Texas House of Representatives.
