| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Mike R. Perez is retiring from his post as the |

| 6 | 7 | | Weslaco city manager on October 29, 2021, drawing to a close an |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | exemplary career spanning more than four decades in municipal |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | government; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Early in his working life, Mr. Perez served as an |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | administrative assistant in the office of the Arlington city |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | manager, and he went on to be elevated to the role of city manager |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | for Mercedes and Harlingen; he was then appointed as city manager of |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | McAllen, a position he held for close to 22 years before he retired |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | and became a consultant; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In addition to working with clients in the private |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | sector, Mr. Perez served a brief period as interim city manager for |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Hidalgo; in December 2014, he returned to the role of city manager |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | for Weslaco, bringing a wealth of experience to that office; |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | throughout his career, he has often been sought out for his advice |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | and expertise, and he has provided mentorship that has helped many |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | of his colleagues to become successful managers themselves; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Active in the communities he has served, Mr. Perez |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | has been involved with the McAllen Lions Club, the United Way, and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | various committees in his church; moreover, he is a past president |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | of the Texas City Management Association, as well as a member of the |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | International City/County Management Association; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Perez is blessed with the |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | love and support of his wife, Diana, and he takes great pride in his |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | three children, Michael, Christina, and Marcus; and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Through his hard work, professionalism, and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | commitment to excellence, Mike Perez has greatly benefited his |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | fellow Texans, and he has earned the lasting respect and admiration |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | of all those who have had the pleasure of working with him; now, |

| 35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
