45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Maya Stanton of Houston has distinguished herself
67 through her exceptional work as an advocate for the transgender
78 youth community in Texas; and
89 WHEREAS, At 10 years of age, Maya has demonstrated
910 extraordinary maturity as she has appeared at numerous committee
1011 hearings conducted by the Texas House of Representatives and Texas
1112 Senate; her testimony has enabled legislators and the public to
1213 better understand the needs of transgender youth and their parents,
1314 and she has helped raise awareness of the impact that proposed
1415 legislation may have on students such as herself; she has also
1516 shared her story with media outlets, including the Houston
1617 Chronicle and the Texas Tribune; and
1718 WHEREAS, Maya enjoys the love and support of her parents,
1819 Lisa and Jeffrey Stanton, and her fraternal twin brother, Max; she
1920 is an outstanding student and enjoys an active lifestyle that
2021 includes swimming and gymnastics; and
2122 WHEREAS, By courageously speaking out on urgent legislative
2223 issues, Maya Stanton has helped ensure that the voices of
2324 transgender students will not be silenced, and she is a source of
2425 inspiration to numerous people in the Lone Star State and beyond;
2526 now, therefore, be it
2627 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
2728 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Maya Stanton for
2829 her advocacy in behalf of the transgender youth community in Texas
2930 and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success in her
3031 important work; and, be it further
3132 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3233 prepared for Maya Stanton as an expression of high regard by the
3334 Texas House of Representatives.
