5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, State Representative Lyle Larson of San Antonio is |

6 | 7 | | completing his tenure in the Texas House of Representatives in |

7 | 8 | | January 2023 at the end of his sixth term in office, following 12 |

8 | 9 | | years of exemplary service to his constituents; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Born and raised on a family farm in northern Bexar |
---|
10 | 11 | | County, Representative Larson graduated from MacArthur High School |
---|
11 | 12 | | in the North East Independent School District and earned his |
---|
12 | 13 | | bachelor's degree in business administration from Texas A&M |
---|
13 | 14 | | University; he was employed by Nalco Chemical Company and Johnson & |
---|
14 | 15 | | Johnson before establishing his own business; in 1991, he began his |
---|
15 | 16 | | career in public service, winning election to the first of two terms |
---|
16 | 17 | | on the San Antonio City Council, and he went on to serve as Bexar |
---|
17 | 18 | | County commissioner for Precinct 3 from 1997 to 2008; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Representative Larson was first elected to the Texas |
---|
19 | 20 | | House in 2010, and following a productive freshman session, he was |
---|
20 | 21 | | named one of three "Rookies of the Year" by the Texas Tribune; he |
---|
21 | 22 | | demonstrated an exceptional commitment to addressing the vital |
---|
22 | 23 | | water issues confronting our state, and he co-chaired the committee |
---|
23 | 24 | | overseeing the Bexar Metropolitan Water District and went on to |
---|
24 | 25 | | chair both the Natural Resources Committee and its Subcommittee on |
---|
25 | 26 | | Special Water Districts; traveling across the state in support of |
---|
26 | 27 | | water policy and planning, he met with some 50 groundwater |
---|
27 | 28 | | conservation districts, a dozen river authorities, all the large |
---|
28 | 29 | | public utilities, and several other municipalities and water |
---|
29 | 30 | | districts; he further served on the Edwards Aquifer Oversight |
---|
30 | 31 | | Committee, and he protected the state's iconic park system through |
---|
31 | 32 | | his efforts to end diversions of funding; with the passage of House |
---|
32 | 33 | | Bill 158 during the 84th Legislative Session, he helped ensure that |
---|
33 | 34 | | future generations will continue to enjoy the natural beauty of the |
---|
34 | 35 | | Lone Star State; and |
---|
35 | 36 | | WHEREAS, A steadfast proponent of term limits for elected |
---|
36 | 37 | | state officials, Representative Larson introduced legislation to |
---|
37 | 38 | | impose such measures, and his own retirement at the 12-year mark is |
---|
38 | 39 | | a reflection of the strength of his convictions; and |
---|
39 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Throughout his time in office, Lyle Larson has |
---|
40 | 41 | | worked ceaselessly to improve quality of life for his constituents |
---|
41 | 42 | | and secure the future of water resources across Texas, and he has |
---|
42 | 43 | | earned the lasting respect of his colleagues and the deep |
---|
43 | 44 | | appreciation of his fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it |

44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

45 | 46 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the Honorable Lyle |

46 | 47 | | Larson on his outstanding public service and extend to him sincere |
