| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Bar College is celebrating its 40th |

| 6 | 7 | | anniversary on December 14, 2021; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The Supreme Court of Texas founded the College of |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | the State Bar of Texas on December 14, 1981; formally renamed the |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Texas Bar College in 2015, the organization recognizes and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | encourages lawyers, paralegals, and judges who maintain and enhance |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | their professional skills by voluntarily participating in legal |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | education; with more than 4,800 members, the college offers |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | continuing legal education courses that enable participants to |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | learn about important developments in their areas of practice; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, In 2005, the college established an endowment to |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | support a number of educational opportunities, including a |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Continuing Legal Education Subsidy Grant program to assist pro bono |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | organizations and local and minority bar associations with limited |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | resources in bringing quality continuing legal education |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | activities to their area; the fund also supports Oyez, Oyez, Oh |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Yay!, an education project for Texas students and teachers to learn |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | about the role of the judicial system, as well as substance abuse |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | and mental health treatment through the Texas Lawyers' Assistance |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Program; in 2017, the endowment donated to the Houston Volunteer |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Lawyers program and Lone Star Legal Aid to fund direct legal |

| 26 | 27 | | services to low-income residents coping with issues in the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | aftermath of Hurricane Harvey; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, For four decades, the Texas Bar College has |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | demonstrated an unwavering commitment to helping legal |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | professionals in the state better serve the public, and it is a |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | pleasure to join in recognizing this special milestone in the |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | organization's history; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 40th |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | anniversary of Texas Bar College and extend to all those associated |

| 36 | 37 | | with the organization sincere best wishes for continued success; |
