| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 7 | | passing of John Gordon Wilkerson Jr. of Lubbock on August 28, 2021, |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A lifelong Lubbock resident, John Wilkerson was born |

| 9 | 10 | | on December 18, 1934, to John Gordon Wilkerson and Cleo Hankins |

| 10 | 11 | | Wilkerson Bullard, and he grew up with two siblings, Howard and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Mary; he graduated from Lubbock High School in 1953 and from Baylor |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | University in 1957; dedicated to his alma mater, he went on to serve |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | for 18 years on the Baylor Board of Regents, including as chair, and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | he presided over the Hankamer School of Business alumni board of |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | directors; he also chaired the Baylor Development Council; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In 1956, Mr. Wilkerson assumed leadership of the |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Wilkerson Cold Storage Co., and he remained at its helm as chairman |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | until his death; under his able leadership, Wilkerson Storage Co. |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | and Wilkerson Properties served an array of commercial and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | industrial logistics and real estate customers; Mr. Wilkerson |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | belonged to the board of directors of the International Association |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | of Refrigerated Warehouses, and he was instrumental in the growth |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | of the Lubbock community, chairing the Board of City Development, |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | the Lubbock Central Appraisal District, and the Civil Service |

|---|
| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Wilkerson enjoyed the love |

| 27 | 28 | | and support of his wife of 63 years, Ruth, and he took great pride in |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | his four children, Gordon, David, Sarah, and Ray, who preceded his |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | father in death; with the passing years, Mr. Wilkerson welcomed |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren into his family; a |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | man of deep faith, he served in numerous capacities at First Baptist |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | Church; he was a champion of the downtrodden and readily shared his |

| 33 | 34 | | resources with those in need; and |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | WHEREAS, John Wilkerson possessed a generosity of spirit that |

| 35 | 36 | | expressed itself in myriad ways, and he enriched the lives of |

| 36 | 37 | | countless people with his compassion, integrity, and strength of |

| 37 | 38 | | character; now, therefore, be it |
