| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Victor Alvarez is retiring as pastor of Iglesia |

| 6 | 6 | | Bautista Fundamental in Brownsville on October 10, 2021, drawing to |

| 7 | 7 | | a close more than four decades of service to the congregation; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Alvarez moved to Brownsville with his family |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | when he was 10 days old, and he found his faith at the age of 22 in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Corpus Christi; he received his education at Salt Lake Bible |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | College, where he earned three degrees, including a doctorate in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | theology; he began his career in Corpus Christi, where he was |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | assistant pastor at Iglesia Bautista El Cordero de Dios for five |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | years; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, In 1980, Pastor Alvarez returned to Brownsville and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | established Iglesia Bautista Fundamental in the Cameron Park |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | colonia; the congregation began meeting under a tree, and over |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | time, it moved into a 26,000-square-foot facility on two acres of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | land; Pastor Alvarez also started the Christian Fundamental Academy |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | to educate children from kindergarten through the 12th grade, and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | he raised money for scholarships, empowering many students to go on |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | to college and to productive professional careers; in addition, he |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | created a bus ministry, bringing more than 200 youth to Sunday |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | school every week; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Pastor Alvarez has further contributed to the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | community through his work with the area's planning and zoning |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | committee, the Capital Improvements Advisory Committee, the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority, United for the Progress |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | of Cameron Park, and as a board member of the Colonia Self-Help |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Program, as well as through his participation in voter registration |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | drives; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Victor Alvarez has distinguished himself as an |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | esteemed spiritual leader, a champion for Cameron Park, and a |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | powerful force for change in the community, and he may indeed take |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | pride in his outstanding record of service as he embarks on the next |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | exciting chapter of his life; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 38 | 38 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Pastor Victor |

| 39 | 39 | | Alvarez on his retirement from Iglesia Bautista Fundamental and |
