45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Charlotte Ann Rogers Sorrel on September 21, 2021, at the
78 age of 84; and
89 WHEREAS, The former Charlotte Rogers was born to Iris and
910 Glen Rogers in Little Rock, Arkansas, on November 18, 1936; she
1011 graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1954 and earned a
1112 bachelor's degree in education from Baylor University; in 1956, she
1213 married Frank Sorrel, and she became the proud mother of two
1314 children, Virginia and Glen; with the passing years, she had the
1415 pleasure of seeing her family grow to include eight grandchildren,
1516 Trey, Chandler, Cathlyn, Shelby, Lindsey, Claire, Carly, and
1617 Marcial, and five great-grandchildren; and
1718 WHEREAS, For many years, Mrs. Sorrel devoted herself to her
1819 home and family and was very involved with her children's
1920 activities; in addition, she served as an instructor at Royal Oaks
2021 and Northway Baptist Churches and at Farmers Branch Community
2122 Recreation Center; and
2223 WHEREAS, Mrs. Sorrel later earned a bachelor's degree in
2324 biology and a master's degree in education from Texas Woman's
2425 University, and she taught at Berkner High School in Richardson for
2526 11 years; active in several professional organizations, she was a
2627 contributing author for the Macmillan/McGraw-Hill School
2728 Publishing Company, and she received a number of honors, including
2829 the Texas Health Educator of the Year Award; and
2930 WHEREAS, This distinguished educator went on to join the
3031 Texas Education Agency as an education specialist and consultant,
3132 and she served as a liaison with such agencies as the Texas
3233 Department of Human Services, where she developed plans for
3334 responses to adolescent pregnancies; she also created a nationally
3435 recognized customer service training program for the Child Support
3536 Division of the Texas Office of the Attorney General; in 1993, she
3637 became a training manager and instructional designer for the Texas
3738 Natural Resource Conservation Commission, and following her
3839 retirement in 1998, she worked as a substitute teacher in the Eanes
3940 Independent School District; and
4041 WHEREAS, Charlotte Sorrel lived a life that was rich in
4142 personal and professional achievements, and she will forever be a
4243 source of inspiration to all those whose lives she forever
4344 enriched; now, therefore, be it
4445 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4546 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
4647 of Charlotte Ann Rogers Sorrel and extend sincere condolences to
4748 her many relatives and friends; and, be it further
4849 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4950 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
5051 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charlotte
5152 Sorrel.
