5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | passing of Charlotte Ann Rogers Sorrel on September 21, 2021, at the |

7 | 8 | | age of 84; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The former Charlotte Rogers was born to Iris and |
---|
9 | 10 | | Glen Rogers in Little Rock, Arkansas, on November 18, 1936; she |
---|
10 | 11 | | graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1954 and earned a |
---|
11 | 12 | | bachelor's degree in education from Baylor University; in 1956, she |
---|
12 | 13 | | married Frank Sorrel, and she became the proud mother of two |
---|
13 | 14 | | children, Virginia and Glen; with the passing years, she had the |
---|
14 | 15 | | pleasure of seeing her family grow to include eight grandchildren, |
---|
15 | 16 | | Trey, Chandler, Cathlyn, Shelby, Lindsey, Claire, Carly, and |
---|
16 | 17 | | Marcial, and five great-grandchildren; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, For many years, Mrs. Sorrel devoted herself to her |
---|
18 | 19 | | home and family and was very involved with her children's |
---|
19 | 20 | | activities; in addition, she served as an instructor at Royal Oaks |
---|
20 | 21 | | and Northway Baptist Churches and at Farmers Branch Community |
---|
21 | 22 | | Recreation Center; and |
---|
22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Sorrel later earned a bachelor's degree in |
---|
23 | 24 | | biology and a master's degree in education from Texas Woman's |
---|
24 | 25 | | University, and she taught at Berkner High School in Richardson for |
---|
25 | 26 | | 11 years; active in several professional organizations, she was a |
---|
26 | 27 | | contributing author for the Macmillan/McGraw-Hill School |
---|
27 | 28 | | Publishing Company, and she received a number of honors, including |
---|
28 | 29 | | the Texas Health Educator of the Year Award; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, This distinguished educator went on to join the |
---|
30 | 31 | | Texas Education Agency as an education specialist and consultant, |
---|
31 | 32 | | and she served as a liaison with such agencies as the Texas |
---|
32 | 33 | | Department of Human Services, where she developed plans for |
---|
33 | 34 | | responses to adolescent pregnancies; she also created a nationally |
---|
34 | 35 | | recognized customer service training program for the Child Support |
---|
35 | 36 | | Division of the Texas Office of the Attorney General; in 1993, she |
---|
36 | 37 | | became a training manager and instructional designer for the Texas |
---|
37 | 38 | | Natural Resource Conservation Commission, and following her |
---|
38 | 39 | | retirement in 1998, she worked as a substitute teacher in the Eanes |
---|
39 | 40 | | Independent School District; and |
---|
40 | 41 | | WHEREAS, Charlotte Sorrel lived a life that was rich in |
---|
41 | 42 | | personal and professional achievements, and she will forever be a |
---|
42 | 43 | | source of inspiration to all those whose lives she forever |
---|
43 | 44 | | enriched; now, therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
45 | 46 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
---|
46 | 47 | | of Charlotte Ann Rogers Sorrel and extend sincere condolences to |
---|
47 | 48 | | her many relatives and friends; and, be it further |
---|
48 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
49 | 50 | | prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
50 | 51 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Charlotte |

51 | 52 | | Sorrel. |
