45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The Terrell Lions Club is celebrating its 100th
67 anniversary in 2021, providing a welcome opportunity to recognize
78 the group for its many good works; and
89 WHEREAS, Established in 1917 by Melvin Jones, the Association
910 of Lions Clubs held its first national convention that year in
1011 Dallas, with 12 of the 23 participating clubs hailing from Texas;
1112 the Lions adopted a key mission a decade later when Helen Keller
1213 urged them to become "Knights of the Blind"; through the years, the
1314 organization has undertaken numerous initiatives benefiting those
1415 with visual impairments while also carrying out many other
1516 humanitarian efforts; and
1617 WHEREAS, Over the years, the Terrell Lions Club has
1718 contributed to numerous worthy causes such as its annual flag
1819 program, which has awarded hundreds of thousands of dollars in
1920 scholarships to area high school students; and
2021 WHEREAS, Since its inception, the Terrell Lions Club has
2122 helped countless individuals to enjoy a better quality of life, and
2223 its members may reflect with pride on the dedicated and
2324 compassionate service their club continues to render to the Terrell
2425 community and beyond; now, therefore, be it
2526 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
2627 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the centennial
2728 of the Terrell Lion Clubs and extend to all those associated with
2829 the organization sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
2930 it further
3031 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3132 prepared for the Terrell Lions Club as an expression of high regard
3233 by the Texas House of Representatives.
