45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Claud B. Jacobs of Yoakum, founding chair of
67 Bluebonnet Youth Ranch, has distinguished himself through his
78 extensive record of community service; and
89 WHEREAS, In 1968, Mr. Jacobs joined with other area
910 businessmen to establish Bluebonnet Youth Ranch, a private,
1011 nonprofit facility licensed by the state to provide long-term
1112 residential care and treatment to children in need; to raise funds
1213 for the home, Mr. Jacobs conceived of an annual celebrity golf
1314 tournament; and
1415 WHEREAS, Mr. Jacobs has served his community in myriad
1516 capacities, including president of the Yoakum Jaycees, the Yoakum
1617 Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Yoakum United Way Fund Drive; in
1718 addition, he founded Mended Hearts of Victoria, and he has held
1819 leadership roles in many other charitable and civic organizations,
1920 among them the Yoakum Chapter of the American Cancer Society, the
2021 Food Bank of the Golden Crescent, the Victoria Chamber of Commerce,
2122 and the Victoria Port Authority; he also helped restart the City
2223 Championship golf tournament in Victoria, and the trophy was named
2324 in his honor; and
2425 WHEREAS, Deeply committed to education, Mr. Jacobs has
2526 served as president of the board of St. Joseph School; he was a
2627 member of the University of Houston-Victoria presidential search
2728 committee and downward expansion committee, and he and his wife,
2829 Mary Virginia Jacobs, have endowed a nursing scholarship and golf
2930 and baseball scholarships at the institution; moreover, he has
3031 raised over $300,000 for UHV athletics through the Claud Jacobs
3132 Intercollegiate Tournament; the university presented him with its
3233 People Who Make a Difference Award, and his numerous accolades
3334 further include selection as Member of the Year by the Victoria
3435 Chamber of Commerce and as Citizen of the Year by the Victoria
3536 Rotary Club; and
3637 WHEREAS, Claud Jacobs has greatly benefited his fellow
3738 citizens through his wide-ranging civic endeavors, and his example
3839 of dedicated leadership is an inspiration to all who know him; now,
3940 therefore, be it
4041 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4142 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Claud B. Jacobs for
4243 his outstanding record of community service and extend to him
4344 sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for Mr. Jacobs as an expression of high regard by the Texas
4647 House of Representatives.
