45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A life dedicated to public service has drawn to a
67 close with the death of Daniel Lowell Walden, police chief of the
78 Donna Independent School District, on September 27, 2021, at the
89 age of 53; and
910 WHEREAS, The son of Charles and Joyce Walden, Daniel Walden
1011 was born in Puyallup, Washington, on October 7, 1967; after moving
1112 to the Rio Grande Valley as a young man, he studied at the police
1213 academy and embarked upon a career as a first responder, working for
1314 12 years as a paramedic and as the owner of an ambulance business;
1415 and
1516 WHEREAS, Mr. Walden went on to enjoy a rewarding career in
1617 law enforcement that spanned more than 20 years, including a tenure
1718 as a detective for the Donna Police Department; he joined the police
1819 department of Donna ISD as a deputy, and he served as a senior
1920 sergeant for 11 years and as chief since 2017; a certified master
2021 peace officer, he was a popular instructor at training clinics for
2122 police officers in the region, specializing in classes on mental
2223 health, firearms, school-based law enforcement, and sexual assault
2324 and family violence; he was named the 2019 Instructor of the Year by
2425 the Focus on Reducing Impaired Driving Among Youth (FRIDAY)
2526 program; and
2627 WHEREAS, Mr. Walden shared a loving union with his wife,
2728 Veronica, and he delighted in the time he spent playing video games
2829 with his sons, Daniel and Isaiah; he also liked taking long road
2930 trips with his family and exploring such places as South Padre
3031 Island, the Nueces River, and the Medina family ranch in Duval
3132 County; and
3233 WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family and his community,
3334 Daniel Walden made a meaningful difference in the lives of his loved
3435 ones and fellow citizens alike, and although he will be deeply
3536 missed, his contributions will be remembered for years to come;
3637 now, therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3839 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
3940 Donna ISD Police Chief Daniel Lowell Walden and extend sincere
4041 condolences to the members of his family and to his many friends;
4142 and, be it further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4445 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Daniel
4546 Walden.
