45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Dennis M. Allen is retiring from the Hardin County
67 Sheriff's Office in October 2021, drawing to a close a rewarding
78 career in public service that has spanned five and a half decades;
89 and
910 WHEREAS, A native of Silsbee, Mr. Allen joined the U.S. Army
1011 in 1966 and served with distinction during a combat tour in Vietnam;
1112 after three years in the military, he was honorably discharged at
1213 the rank of specialist; and
1314 WHEREAS, Mr. Allen subsequently became a law enforcement
1415 officer, joining the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police
1516 Department in 1969; during his tenure there, he served as a patrol
1617 officer, an undercover detective, and a member of the Civil
1718 Disturbance Unit; in 1973, he accepted a position with the Silsbee
1819 Police Department, and he eventually led the agency as the chief of
1920 police; after a brief stint as a sheriff's deputy in Hardin County,
2021 he became a member of the Polk County Sheriff's Office, where he
2122 spent a decade as the captain of detectives; he returned to the
2223 Hardin County Sheriff's Office in 2011, starting out as a deputy and
2324 rising through the ranks to sergeant and later to major of criminal
2425 investigations; known for his integrity and dedication to
2526 protecting and serving the public, he has mentored numerous new
2627 officers, many of whom have gone on to become supervisors and
2728 administrators; and
2829 WHEREAS, For more than a half century, Dennis Allen has
2930 exemplified the highest ideals of the law enforcement profession,
3031 and he may indeed reflect with pride on his notable record of
3132 achievement; now, therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
3334 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Dennis
3435 M. Allen on his retirement from the Hardin County Sheriff's Office
3536 and extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
3637 further
3738 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3839 prepared for Mr. Allen as an expression of high regard by the Texas
3940 House of Representatives.
