| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dennis M. Allen is retiring from the Hardin County |

| 6 | 7 | | Sheriff's Office in October 2021, drawing to a close a rewarding |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | career in public service that has spanned five and a half decades; |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A native of Silsbee, Mr. Allen joined the U.S. Army |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | in 1966 and served with distinction during a combat tour in Vietnam; |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | after three years in the military, he was honorably discharged at |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | the rank of specialist; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Allen subsequently became a law enforcement |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | officer, joining the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Police |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Department in 1969; during his tenure there, he served as a patrol |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | officer, an undercover detective, and a member of the Civil |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Disturbance Unit; in 1973, he accepted a position with the Silsbee |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Police Department, and he eventually led the agency as the chief of |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | police; after a brief stint as a sheriff's deputy in Hardin County, |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | he became a member of the Polk County Sheriff's Office, where he |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | spent a decade as the captain of detectives; he returned to the |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Hardin County Sheriff's Office in 2011, starting out as a deputy and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | rising through the ranks to sergeant and later to major of criminal |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | investigations; known for his integrity and dedication to |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | protecting and serving the public, he has mentored numerous new |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | officers, many of whom have gone on to become supervisors and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | administrators; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, For more than a half century, Dennis Allen has |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | exemplified the highest ideals of the law enforcement profession, |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | and he may indeed reflect with pride on his notable record of |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | achievement; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Dennis |

| 34 | 35 | | M. Allen on his retirement from the Hardin County Sheriff's Office |
