8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Profiles in Diversity |

9 | 10 | | Journal has honored individuals who excel in their chosen fields |

10 | 11 | | while innovating, mentoring others, and advancing diversity and |

11 | 12 | | inclusion in the workplace; and |
---|
12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, America Jones is the chief executive officer of |

13 | 14 | | Kindred Hospital El Paso, a long-term acute care facility that |
---|
14 | 15 | | treats chronically, critically ill patients who require |
---|
15 | 16 | | specialized care during an extended stay in a hospital setting; |
---|
16 | 17 | | during her tenure, she has worked to develop a strong culture of |
---|
17 | 18 | | staff engagement, diversity, and mutual respect; as a result, staff |
---|
18 | 19 | | turnover is low, which contributes to a superior quality of care for |

20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, The first college graduate in her family, Ms. Jones |

21 | 22 | | earned her bachelor's degree in nursing at The University of Texas |

22 | 23 | | at El Paso; she initially majored in electrical engineering at UT |

23 | 24 | | Austin but interrupted her studies to help her grandmother when she |

24 | 25 | | was diagnosed with cancer; after witnessing the holistic, |

25 | 26 | | compassionate care provided by a hospice nurse, Ms. Jones |

26 | 27 | | recognized her own calling; she began her career as a nurse, and as |

27 | 28 | | she advanced in her profession, she garnered a Nursing Excellence |

28 | 29 | | Award from the Visiting Nurses Association and went on to complete a |
---|
29 | 30 | | master's degree in nursing systems management at her alma mater; |

30 | 31 | | she served as chief nursing officer of a hospital before becoming |
---|
31 | 32 | | CEO at Kindred Hospital El Paso; and |

32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, America Jones has distinguished herself through her |

33 | 34 | | contributions to health care and her commitment to inclusivity in |

34 | 35 | | the workplace, and her accomplishments are a source of inspiration |

35 | 36 | | to all who are privileged to know her; now, therefore, be it |
