| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Royse City Independent School District is |

| 6 | 7 | | hosting a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Ruth Cherry |

| 7 | 8 | | Elementary School campus on October 29, 2021; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Ruth Cherry Elementary is named for Norris Ruth |

| 9 | 10 | | Tanton Cherry, a former educator and administrator of Royse City |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | ISD; over the course of her career with the district, she served as |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | an elementary and high school teacher, and she went on to become a |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | principal at Browning Primary School and Royse City High School; |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | she ultimately retired in 1998, and the district's intermediate |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | school was dedicated in her honor in 2009; the campus transitioned |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | into an elementary school in 2020, and it currently benefits from |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | the able leadership of principal Kara Onken; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The construction project for Ruth Cherry Elementary |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | is being funded as part of a Royse City ISD bond package that passed |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | in May 2021; the new campus will be located on Verandah Boulevard, |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | and the school is scheduled to open in fall 2022; its current |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | facilities will be transformed into an early childhood center; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, By equipping young Texans with the knowledge and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | skills necessary for success, Ruth Cherry Elementary School is |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | making a positive and lasting difference in its community, and the |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | construction of a new campus will enhance its efforts in that |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | crucial endeavor; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | groundbreaking ceremony of the new Ruth Cherry Elementary School |

| 30 | 31 | | campus in Royse City ISD and extend to the school's students, |

| 31 | 32 | | faculty, staff, and administration sincere best wishes for the |
