5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories |

6 | 7 | | of George W. Arrington of Canadian, who passed away on April 14, |

7 | 8 | | 2021, at the age of 88; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of French and Ollie Arrington, George |
---|
9 | 10 | | Arrington was born in Fort Worth on January 26, 1933, and he grew up |
---|
10 | 11 | | with the companionship of a sister, Ann, and a twin brother, |
---|
11 | 12 | | William; after graduating from the New Mexico Military Institute in |
---|
12 | 13 | | Roswell, he earned a bachelor's degree in finance from the |
---|
13 | 14 | | University of Oklahoma; later, he attended law school at the |
---|
14 | 15 | | University of Tulsa and Oklahoma City University, and he received a |
---|
15 | 16 | | juris doctor degree in 1966; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, While studying law, Mr. Arrington was employed at |
---|
17 | 18 | | Cities Service Oil Company, where he remained for 10 years before |
---|
18 | 19 | | relocating to Canadian and becoming an independent worker in the |
---|
19 | 20 | | oil and gas industry; additionally, he owned and operated the |
---|
20 | 21 | | Arrington family ranch in Hemphill County; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Highly engaged in civic life, Mr. Arrington was |
---|
22 | 23 | | active in the Republican Party; he was a member of the Canadian City |
---|
23 | 24 | | Council for four years, and he served as mayor of Canadian for six |
---|
24 | 25 | | years; moreover, he was appointed to the Governor's Committee on |
---|
25 | 26 | | Aging and to the Red River Authority of Texas board, which he |
---|
26 | 27 | | further served as president; he also led the Panhandle-Plains |
---|
27 | 28 | | Historical Society in Canyon as president; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Arrington shared a loving union with his wife, |
---|
29 | 30 | | Jane, that spanned six decades until her passing in 2014; he took |
---|
30 | 31 | | great pride in their children, Cathy, Julie, and Mike, and over the |
---|
31 | 32 | | years, he was further blessed with 8 grandchildren and 11 |
---|
32 | 33 | | great-grandchildren; sustained by a deep faith, he was a longtime |
---|
33 | 34 | | member of the First Presbyterian Church of Canadian, and he served |
---|
34 | 35 | | as an elder, delegate to the general assembly, and commissioner of |
---|
35 | 36 | | the Palo Duro Presbytery; and |
---|
36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a dedicated public servant, |
---|
37 | 38 | | George Arrington lived a rich and purposeful life, and he leaves |
---|
38 | 39 | | behind a record of service that will forever remain a source of |
---|
39 | 40 | | inspiration; now, therefore, be it |
---|
40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |
---|
41 | 42 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory |
---|
42 | 43 | | of George W. Arrington and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who |
---|
43 | 44 | | mourn his passing; and, be it further |
---|
44 | 45 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
---|
45 | 46 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
---|
46 | 47 | | Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of George |

47 | 48 | | Arrington. |
