45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their memories
67 of George W. Arrington of Canadian, who passed away on April 14,
78 2021, at the age of 88; and
89 WHEREAS, The son of French and Ollie Arrington, George
910 Arrington was born in Fort Worth on January 26, 1933, and he grew up
1011 with the companionship of a sister, Ann, and a twin brother,
1112 William; after graduating from the New Mexico Military Institute in
1213 Roswell, he earned a bachelor's degree in finance from the
1314 University of Oklahoma; later, he attended law school at the
1415 University of Tulsa and Oklahoma City University, and he received a
1516 juris doctor degree in 1966; and
1617 WHEREAS, While studying law, Mr. Arrington was employed at
1718 Cities Service Oil Company, where he remained for 10 years before
1819 relocating to Canadian and becoming an independent worker in the
1920 oil and gas industry; additionally, he owned and operated the
2021 Arrington family ranch in Hemphill County; and
2122 WHEREAS, Highly engaged in civic life, Mr. Arrington was
2223 active in the Republican Party; he was a member of the Canadian City
2324 Council for four years, and he served as mayor of Canadian for six
2425 years; moreover, he was appointed to the Governor's Committee on
2526 Aging and to the Red River Authority of Texas board, which he
2627 further served as president; he also led the Panhandle-Plains
2728 Historical Society in Canyon as president; and
2829 WHEREAS, Mr. Arrington shared a loving union with his wife,
2930 Jane, that spanned six decades until her passing in 2014; he took
3031 great pride in their children, Cathy, Julie, and Mike, and over the
3132 years, he was further blessed with 8 grandchildren and 11
3233 great-grandchildren; sustained by a deep faith, he was a longtime
3334 member of the First Presbyterian Church of Canadian, and he served
3435 as an elder, delegate to the general assembly, and commissioner of
3536 the Palo Duro Presbytery; and
3637 WHEREAS, A devoted family man and a dedicated public servant,
3738 George Arrington lived a rich and purposeful life, and he leaves
3839 behind a record of service that will forever remain a source of
3940 inspiration; now, therefore, be it
4041 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4142 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
4243 of George W. Arrington and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who
4344 mourn his passing; and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
4647 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of George
4748 Arrington.
