45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close with the
67 passing of Al'Louise Suthers Ramp of Canadian on August 23, 2021, at
78 the age of 81; and
89 WHEREAS, Born in Shattuck, Oklahoma, on June 26, 1940, the
910 former Al'Louise Suthers was the daughter of Gwendoline Lenoir
1011 Robinson and William Heward Suthers; she enjoyed the companionship
1112 of four siblings, James, Neal, Grady, and Lelia, and she learned the
1213 importance of hard work while growing up on her family's farm in
1314 rural Oklahoma; she went on to attend Arnett High School, before
1415 studying business at Oklahoma State University; following her
1516 graduation, she met her future husband, John Dale Ramp, and they
1617 were married at a ceremony in Arnett in 1962; and
1718 WHEREAS, After moving to Canadian, Mrs. Ramp became involved
1819 in the Presbyterian Church and the community; when Mr. Ramp retired
1920 from his coaching career, the couple relocated to the Ramp Ranch
2021 outside of Canadian, and Mrs. Ramp was an active citizen of Gem City
2122 while raising their two daughters, Susan and Beth; the family
2223 purchased a home in Canadian in the 1980s, and Mrs. Ramp worked at
2324 First State Bank and at a local law firm; and
2425 WHEREAS, A member of the Daughters of the American
2526 Revolution, Mrs. Ramp was the organizing regent of the DAR
2627 Comancheria Chapter in 1973, and she also held many other offices in
2728 the group, including those of DAR state regent for Texas and
2829 corresponding secretary general for the national organization;
2930 along the way, she accepted invitations to speak about the virtues
3031 of patriotism and service at events around the country, and she was
3132 proud of her work to honor veterans; in addition to the DAR, she was
3233 involved with the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, The National
3334 Society of The Colonial Dames of America, and the Huguenot Society
3435 of America, and she was recognized for her efforts to compile
3536 records of the history of Hemphill County; and
3637 WHEREAS, Mrs. Ramp enjoyed traveling, attending football
3738 games, and performing genealogy research; she was also a dedicated
3839 philanthropist who graciously donated to her church and to schools,
3940 and she helped many students achieve their educational goals; and
4041 WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Al'Louise Ramp
4142 will remember the way she touched their lives with her warmth and
4243 kindness, and she will forever hold a special place in their hearts;
4344 now, therefore, be it
4445 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas
4546 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the memory
4647 of Al'Louise Suthers Ramp and extend sincere sympathy to her family
4748 and friends; and, be it further
4849 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4950 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
5051 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Al'Louise
5152 Ramp.
