| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

| 6 | 7 | | passing of James Melton Purser Jr. of Canadian on August 21, 2021, |

| 7 | 8 | | at the age of 81; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The son of James Purser Sr. and Lavona Purser, Jim |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Purser was born on August 18, 1940, in Washita, Oklahoma, and grew |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | up with three siblings, Joyce, Buford, and Gary; at just 16 years |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | old, he embarked on a rewarding career in the oil and gas industry |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | that would span more than half a century and take him around the |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | world; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, On February 22, 1968, Mr. Purser wed the former Mary |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Ann Ortega, and the couple went on to share a rewarding marriage of |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | 53 years; Mr. Purser was the proud father of two children, Tim and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Tricia, and with the passing years, he was further blessed with |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | seven beloved grandchildren; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Purser and his family lived in Singapore and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | Spain during the 1970s before settling in Canadian in 1980; he |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | became a valued member of his community, avidly supporting the |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Canadian High School Wildcats and participating in the local |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Masonic lodge; sustained by a deep and abiding faith, he was |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | baptized at Canadian Church of Christ; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Although Jim Purser will be deeply missed, he has |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | left his family and friends with a wealth of memories that they will |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | forever treasure; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 87th Texas |

| 29 | 30 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of |
