| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Amanda Coots is being recognized as a Distinguished |

| 7 | 8 | | awards dinner of the Temple Education Foundation on October 21, |

|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Each autumn, the TEF awards gala raises funds for |

| 10 | 11 | | student scholarships and innovative teaching grants; the event also |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | offers an opportunity for the foundation to honor distinguished |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | alumni who have gone on to successful careers; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Amanda Coots graduated in the top five of her class |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | at Temple High School in 2001, and she went on to earn her |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | bachelor's and master's degrees in computer engineering from Texas |

| 16 | 17 | | A&M University; during her studies, she began working for NASA as a |

| 17 | 18 | | cooperative education student, and in 2007, she joined the space |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | agency full time; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Today, this dynamic woman is a flight controller and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | instructor for the International Space Station, and she and her |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | team also plan, train, and assist flying operations for the Orion |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | spacecraft, manned commercial vehicles, and the Lunar Gateway |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | project; in addition, she is helping to inspire and educate the next |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | generation of scientists and engineers as a board member of Texas |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Odyssey, which sponsors a creative problem-solving competition for |

| 26 | 27 | | students; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, A proud daughter of Temple, Amanda Coots has built |

| 28 | 29 | | upon the strong educational foundation she received in the |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | community's schools to pursue an impressive and fulfilling career, |

| 30 | 31 | | and she is a worthy recipient of this prestigious award; now, |
