55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
66 citizens of Houston in mourning the loss of Houston Police
77 Officer William Jeffrey, who died in the line of duty on
88 September 20, 2021, at the age 54; and
99 WHEREAS, A lifelong public servant and a respected member
1010 of the Houston community, Bill Jeffrey was a loving husband and
1111 father, a proud veteran of the United States Navy, and an
1212 esteemed senior officer with the Houston Police Department; and
1313 WHEREAS, Courageous and dedicated to duty, Bill Jeffrey
1414 joined the Houston Police Department on June 11, 1990; he served
1515 in both the North Patrol and South Central Patrol Divisions, and
1616 he was assigned to the Major Offenders Division in November of
1717 2008; and
1818 WHEREAS, Officer Jeffrey manifested uncommon talent and
1919 exceptional bravery in managing the responsibilities of law
2020 enforcement, and he set lasting standards for professional
2121 excellence that inspired many new recruits and young officers; in
2222 the course of his career, he was the recipient of 77
2323 commendations, 18 of which were awarded by citizens within the
2424 communities he served; and
2525 WHEREAS, In all of his endeavors, Bill was supported by the
2626 love and encouragement of his devoted wife, Susanne, who retired
2727 as a senior police officer in December of 2020; their cherished
2828 daughter, Lacie, enriched his life immeasurably; and
2929 WHEREAS, Officer Jeffrey exemplified the highest ideals of
3030 law enforcement through his selfless commitment to protecting
3131 and serving the public; he was a treasured Texas citizen and an
3232 outstanding peace officer, and he will long be remembered with
3333 great respect and admiration by all who were privileged to share
3434 in his life; now, therefore, be it
3535 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3636 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
3737 condolences to the bereaved family of Officer William Jeffrey;
3838 and, be it further
3939 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4040 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4141 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4242 memory of Officer Bill Jeffrey.
