2	2	WHEREAS, Nicole Sunstrum is concluding her service as
3	3	legislative director in the office of State Senator Larry Taylor,
4	4	drawing to a close an exceptional tenure with the Texas
5	5	Legislature that has spanned more than 13 years; and
6	6	WHEREAS, One of Senator Taylor's longest-serving staff
7	7	members, Ms. Sunstrum has worked for the legislator since he was
8	8	a member of the Texas House of Representatives, and her
9	9	responsibilities during that period included serving as
10	10	committee clerk for the House Committee on Elections during the
11	11	82nd Legislature in 2011; she then transferred to the senate in
12	12	2013, when Senator Taylor was sworn in for his first term in the
13	13	upper chamber; in the years since, she has held a number of
14	14	leadership roles, including policy analyst, committee clerk,
15	15	senior policy advisor, and most recently, legislative director;
16	16	and
17	17	WHEREAS, Ms. Sunstrum is stepping down from her position
18	18	in Senator Taylor's office to focus on her role as executive
19	19	director for the Gulf Coast Protection District; appointed to the
20	20	helm of the organization by Governor Greg Abbott in June 2021,
21	21	she is helping carry forward the district's mission of leveraging
22	22	funding for flood control and surge protection measures for the
23	23	state's coastal communities; and
24	24	WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin
25	25	with a bachelor's degree in government, Ms. Sunstrum also holds a
26	26	master's degree in public administration from Texas State
27	27	University; she previously served as vice president of the Texas
28	28	Water Foundation Young Professionals Board and as a commissioner
29	29	with the Austin Urban Renewal Board, and she gives generously of
30	30	her time and expertise to the Texas Exes Mentorship Program; she
31	31	is the proud mother of Elodie Scot Poole; and
32	32	WHEREAS, Nicole Sunstrum has performed her duties as a
33	33	legislative staff member with tremendous skill, professionalism,
34	34	and dedication, and she is indeed deserving of special
35	35	recognition for her fine work; now, therefore, be it
36	36	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
37	37	Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Nicole Sunstrum
38	38	for her service in the office of State Senator Larry Taylor and
39	39	extend to her sincere best wishes for success in her new role;
40	40	and, be it further
41	41	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
42	42	prepared for Ms. Sunstrum as an expression of high regard from
43	43	the Texas Senate.
