2	6		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	7		recognize Ramiro "Ray" Martinez, who has been honored with a
4	8		Living Legends of New Braunfels Award by the Braunfels Foundation
5	9		Trust; and
6	10		WHEREAS, Each year, the Braunfels Foundation Trust hosts a
7	11		celebratory luncheon and honors the recipients of the Living
8	12		Legends of New Braunfels Award, which recognizes a select few
9	13		individuals who have dedicated years of outstanding support to
10	14		the people, institutions, and history of New Braunfels; and
11	15		WHEREAS, Ray Martinez is a native of Kent County and a
12	16		third-generation Texan; he courageously served in the United
13	17		States Army as a combat medic, and he went on to distinguish
14	18		himself for excellence in law enforcement with the Austin Police
15	19		Department and earned numerous commendations, including the
16	20		Medal of Valor; he served as a narcotics agent for the Texas
17	21		Department of Public Safety before joining the Texas Rangers, and
18	22		in 1978, he transferred to New Braunfels; for the past four
19	23		decades, he has been proud to call New Braunfels home, and he has
20	24		remained a treasured local citizen and a devoted steward of the
21	25		community; and
22	26		WHEREAS, Ray has served on the boards of numerous civic
23	27		organizations and has generously volunteered his time and
24	28		talents on behalf of countless community efforts, such as
25	29		Wurstfest and the Gruene Music Festival and fund-raising events
26	30		to benefit local schools and charitable groups; he has served in
27	31		leadership positions for a wide variety of organizations,
28	32		including the New Braunfels Noon Lions Club, Comal County
29	33		Crimestoppers, and the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of
30	34		Commerce; and
31	35		WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez has helped the City of New Braunfels
32	36		to flourish through his devoted civic service, and it is indeed
33	37		fitting that he receive special recognition for his invaluable
34	38		contributions to the community; now, therefore, be it
35	39		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
36	40		Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend congratulations
37	41		to Ray Martinez on receiving the Living Legends of New Braunfels
38	42		Award; and, be it further
39	43		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
40	44		him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
