2	6		WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	7		recognize Michael Gillette, who has been selected to receive a
4	8		2021 Humanities Texas Outstanding Teaching Award; and
5	9		WHEREAS, Each year, Humanities Texas presents awards to
6	10		Texas classroom teachers who have made exemplary contributions
7	11		to the field of teaching, curriculum development, and
8	12		extracurricular programs at their schools; and
9	13		WHEREAS, Michael Gillette is receiving one of the
10	14		Humanities Texas Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Awards;
11	15		his impressive career as an educator spans 26 years, and for the
12	16		last 13 years, he has taught advanced placement courses in United
13	17		States history and human geography at Boerne-Samuel V. Champion
14	18		High School; and
15	19		WHEREAS, As an advanced placement and dual-credit teacher,
16	20		Mr. Gillette strives to develop college-ready students who are
17	21		prepared to thrive in a variety of academic settings and excel on
18	22		their long-term paths; his rigorous coursework fosters the
19	23		development of critical thinking skills and encourages students
20	24		to use both primary and secondary research sources; and
21	25		WHEREAS, Mr. Gillette exemplifies the highest ideals of an
22	26		educator, and as a result of his selection for this award, he will
23	27		receive $5,000, and an additional $1,000 prize will benefit the
24	28		Boerne-Samuel V. Champion High School Humanities program; he is
25	29		indeed deserving of special recognition as an outstanding Texas
26	30		teacher; now, therefore, be it
27	31		RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
28	32		Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend congratulations
29	33		to Michael Gillette for being honored with a 2021 Humanities
30	34		Texas Outstanding Teaching Award; and, be it further
31	35		RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
32	36		him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
