| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas recognizes the |

| 3 | 3 | | late Larry Wayne Marusik, a former firefighter with the Ellinger |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Volunteer Fire Department, who is being posthumously honored |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | with a 2021 Star of Texas Award; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Star of Texas Award honors peace officers, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | firefighters, and emergency medical first responders who have |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | been seriously injured or were killed in the line of duty; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Larry Marusik served with distinction in the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Army Air National Guard and enjoyed a long career as a welder |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and successful fabricator in Houston; in 2014, he and his wife, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Diane Marusik, returned to Ellinger, where they had married in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 1971; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, On March 23, 2018, Larry succumbed to injuries he |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | had endured while on a fire and rescue mission 13 days earlier as |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | a member of the Ellinger Volunteer Fire Department; he made the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | ultimate sacrifice after four years of distinguished service |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | with the department and many years of service to his cherished |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | community; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Larry Marusik faced the unique challenges of his |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | volunteer service with courage and dedication, and it is truly |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | fitting that he be honored for his bravery and his commitment to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | public service; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | and legacy of Larry Wayne Marusik; and, be it further |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | his honor. |
