5+ SENATE RESOLUTION
56 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
67 citizens of Dallas in mourning the loss of Vestana Cornelius
78 Wollos, who died September 21, 2021, at the age of 108; and
89 WHEREAS, Vestana Wollos was born in the Queen City
910 community of Dallas on December 12, 1912; she was the seventh and
1011 youngest child of the late Dennis and Eliza Wollos, and she
1112 attended Booker T. Washington High School, the only area school
1213 for black students; and
1314 WHEREAS, This treasured Texan was baptized at Mount Moriah
1415 Missionary Baptist Church at the age of 12, and over the next 80
1516 years, she faithfully served the church in numerous capacities;
1617 in her youth, she was a member of several auxiliaries, and she
1718 later taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School; she
1819 established Family Night at the church, and she was a full-time
1920 employee of the church's day-care center for 16 years; her
2021 passion for service had inspired her to attain her nursing
2122 license, and she enjoyed two decades of service as a nurse at
2223 Methodist Hospital from the mid-1950s until her retirement in
2324 1976; and
2425 WHEREAS, Vestana was the mother of two children, and she
2526 was blessed with a family of nine grandchildren, 18
2627 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, who
2728 enriched her life immeasurably; and
2829 WHEREAS, A cherished matriarch and an esteemed member of
2930 her community, Vestana Wollos was a source of strength to her
3031 friends and loved ones through her kind spirit and her faithful
3132 Christian devotion; she was beloved by many, and she will long be
3233 remembered with respect and admiration by all who were privileged
3334 to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
3435 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3536 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
3637 condolences to the bereaved family of Vestana Cornelius Wollos;
3738 and, be it further
3839 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
3940 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4041 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4142 memory of Vestana Wollos.
