7 | 8 | | Wollos, who died September 21, 2021, at the age of 108; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Vestana Wollos was born in the Queen City |

9 | 10 | | community of Dallas on December 12, 1912; she was the seventh and |

10 | 11 | | youngest child of the late Dennis and Eliza Wollos, and she |

11 | 12 | | attended Booker T. Washington High School, the only area school |
---|
12 | 13 | | for black students; and |

13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, This treasured Texan was baptized at Mount Moriah |
---|
14 | 15 | | Missionary Baptist Church at the age of 12, and over the next 80 |
---|
15 | 16 | | years, she faithfully served the church in numerous capacities; |
---|
16 | 17 | | in her youth, she was a member of several auxiliaries, and she |
---|
17 | 18 | | later taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School; she |
---|
18 | 19 | | established Family Night at the church, and she was a full-time |
---|
19 | 20 | | employee of the church's day-care center for 16 years; her |
---|
20 | 21 | | passion for service had inspired her to attain her nursing |
---|
21 | 22 | | license, and she enjoyed two decades of service as a nurse at |
---|
22 | 23 | | Methodist Hospital from the mid-1950s until her retirement in |
---|
23 | 24 | | 1976; and |
---|
24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Vestana was the mother of two children, and she |
---|
25 | 26 | | was blessed with a family of nine grandchildren, 18 |
---|
26 | 27 | | great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren, who |
---|
27 | 28 | | enriched her life immeasurably; and |
---|
28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, A cherished matriarch and an esteemed member of |
---|
29 | 30 | | her community, Vestana Wollos was a source of strength to her |
---|
30 | 31 | | friends and loved ones through her kind spirit and her faithful |
---|
31 | 32 | | Christian devotion; she was beloved by many, and she will long be |
---|
32 | 33 | | remembered with respect and admiration by all who were privileged |
---|
33 | 34 | | to share in her life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |

35 | 36 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere |

36 | 37 | | condolences to the bereaved family of Vestana Cornelius Wollos; |
