8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Bob Holder was born in Vandalia, Illinois, on |

9 | 10 | | January 16, 1944, and he moved to Texas with his mother as a young |

10 | 11 | | child; he was adopted by his stepfather, Ed Holder, who helped |

11 | 12 | | raise him, and he attended public schools in Wichita Falls; and |

12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Bob became inspired to lead a life of public |
---|
13 | 14 | | service after serving for four years in the United States Marine |
---|
14 | 15 | | Corps; he graduated from the National Sheriff's Institute, the |
---|
15 | 16 | | United States Federal Bureau of Investigation's National |
---|
16 | 17 | | Academy, the Leadership Command College, and the Texas |
---|
17 | 18 | | Governor's Management Program; and |
---|
18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Bob joined the Texas Department of Public Safety, |
---|
19 | 20 | | where he served with distinction for 31 years; in 1977, he became |
---|
20 | 21 | | the first highway patrol sergeant to be assigned to the Comal |
---|
21 | 22 | | County DPS office in New Braunfels, and he was blessed to live and |
---|
22 | 23 | | work in the community for the rest of his life; he went on to be |
---|
23 | 24 | | elected Comal County sheriff and served in the position for 20 |
---|
24 | 25 | | years; after his retirement in 2016, he continued to proudly |
---|
25 | 26 | | serve as an Honorary Texas Ranger and to be active in numerous |
---|
26 | 27 | | community organizations; he was a lifelong member of the |
---|
27 | 28 | | Republican Party; and |
---|
28 | | - | WHEREAS, Bob shared 39 years of marriage with his cherished |
---|
29 | | - | wife, Kelly, who had a career in law enforcement and is an |
---|
30 | | - | outdoors enthusiast; he leaves behind four children and numerous |
---|
31 | | - | grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were a source of much |
---|
32 | | - | pride and joy for him; and |

40 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |

41 | 42 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere |

42 | 43 | | condolences to the bereaved family of James Robert Holder; and, |
