56 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
67 commemorates the life of Jesusa F. Gomez, who died August 19,
78 2021, at the age of 100; and
89 WHEREAS, This treasured citizen was born in Yorktown,
910 Texas, on August 12, 1921; she lost her mother at the young age of
1011 six, and she helped her father to raise her younger siblings; and
11- WHEREAS, Jesusa shared a life of devotion with her husband,
12- the late Valdemar Gomez; she raised their five children by loving
13- example, and her 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren
14- enriched her life immeasurably; and
12+ WHEREAS, Jesusa shared a life of devotion with her

1516 WHEREAS, Jesusa was admired by friends and loved ones for
1617 her intelligence and her many creative and artistic skills; she
1718 was an accomplished seamstress who made beautiful gowns for
1819 weddings and formal occasions, and she owned Jessie's Flower Shop
1920 for many years; she was also known as an amazing cook, and her
2021 family most especially enjoyed her capirotada, tamales,
2122 empanadas, and pan de polvo; and
2223 WHEREAS, An esteemed member of the community, Jesusa was
2324 politically active and was always ready to help a person in need;
2425 in 2003, she and Mr. Gomez were honored as the San Juan Man and
2526 Woman of the Year; and
26- WHEREAS, Jesusa Gomez was a cherished matriarch and a woman
27- of grace and charm; she was beloved by many, and she leaves behind
28- memories that will long be cherished by all who were privileged
29- to share in her life; now, therefore, be it
