6 | 7 | | citizens of Lubbock in mourning the loss of John Gordon Wilkerson |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, John Wilkerson was born on December 18, 1934, and |

9 | 10 | | was a lifelong resident of Lubbock; he graduated from Lubbock |

10 | 11 | | High School, and he went on to earn a degree from Baylor |
---|
11 | 12 | | University; and |
---|
12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, John enjoyed a long career as chairman of |
---|
13 | 14 | | Wilkerson Storage Company and head of Wilkerson Properties, and |
---|
14 | 15 | | under his leadership, the companies expanded to serve a broad |
---|
15 | 16 | | array of clients in the commercial and industrial logistics and |
---|
16 | 17 | | real estate industries; he remained loyal to Baylor University |
---|
17 | 18 | | throughout his life, and his distinguished service to the |
---|
18 | 19 | | institution included 18 years as a member of the Baylor |
---|
19 | 20 | | University Board of Regents and two years as chairman of the |
---|
20 | 21 | | board; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, John contributed greatly to the growth and |
---|
22 | 23 | | development of Lubbock through his many civic leadership roles, |
---|
23 | 24 | | and he gave selflessly of his time and resources to bring comfort |
---|
24 | 25 | | to the vulnerable and downtrodden; he was honored to serve as a |
---|
25 | 26 | | deacon at the First Baptist Church; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, A man who cherished family above all things, John |
---|
27 | 28 | | shared 63 years of marriage with his devoted wife, Ruth, and |
---|
28 | 29 | | together they raised four children by loving Christian example; |
---|
29 | 30 | | he and Ruth were blessed with eight grandchildren, and they and |
---|
30 | 31 | | their two great-grandchildren were a source of much pride and joy |
---|
31 | 32 | | for him; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, John Wilkerson was admired by his friends and |
---|
33 | 34 | | loved ones for his integrity, his generosity, and his devotion to |
---|
34 | 35 | | his hometown community; he was beloved by many, and he will long |
---|
35 | 36 | | be remembered with respect and admiration by all who were |
---|
36 | 37 | | privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |
---|
37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |
---|
38 | 39 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere |
---|
39 | 40 | | condolences to the bereaved family of John Gordon Wilkerson Jr.; |
