| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed veteran and law enforcement officer |

| 9 | 10 | | was noted for his courageous life of service to his county, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | community, and country; and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Josh Bartlett graduated from a homeschool program |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | in Pensacola, Florida, in 2000; he joined the United States Army |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | and served two tours in Iraq as an infantryman with the 10th |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Mountain Division; he was wounded in combat and received a number |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | of medals for his outstanding military service; he earned an |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | associate's degree in criminal justice from South Plains College |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | in 2012, and he graduated from the South Plains Police Academy |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | that same year; he earned a bachelor of applied arts and sciences |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | degree from Midwestern State University in 2015; and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant, Josh served for nine |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | years with the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office, where he led |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | officers as the assistant commander of the SWAT team; he managed |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | the complex responsibilities of a law enforcement professional |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | with courage and conviction, and he made the ultimate sacrifice |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | when he was killed in the line of duty during a shootout on a |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | street in Levelland; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | children; their oldest son, Zachary, their middle son, |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | Christian, and their youngest son, Logan, will carry on their |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | father's love of mead-making, music, and baseball; and |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Esteemed by his colleagues in the sheriff's |

| 33 | 34 | | office, respected by members of the community, and beloved by |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | friends and loved ones, Josh Bartlett inspired many through his |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | bravery and his lifelong devotion to his fellow citizens; he |

| 36 | 37 | | leaves behind memories that will long be treasured by all who |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it |

| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |

| 39 | 40 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere |

| 40 | 41 | | condolences to the bereaved family of Sergeant Joshua Blake |
