5+ SENATE RESOLUTION
56 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
67 commemorates the life of Sergeant Joshua Blake Bartlett, who died
78 in the line of duty on July 15, 2021, at the age of 38; and
89 WHEREAS, This esteemed veteran and law enforcement officer
910 was noted for his courageous life of service to his county,
1011 community, and country; and
1112 WHEREAS, Josh Bartlett graduated from a homeschool program
1213 in Pensacola, Florida, in 2000; he joined the United States Army
1314 and served two tours in Iraq as an infantryman with the 10th
1415 Mountain Division; he was wounded in combat and received a number
1516 of medals for his outstanding military service; he earned an
1617 associate's degree in criminal justice from South Plains College
1718 in 2012, and he graduated from the South Plains Police Academy
1819 that same year; he earned a bachelor of applied arts and sciences
1920 degree from Midwestern State University in 2015; and
2021 WHEREAS, A dedicated public servant, Josh served for nine
2122 years with the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office, where he led
2223 officers as the assistant commander of the SWAT team; he managed
2324 the complex responsibilities of a law enforcement professional
2425 with courage and conviction, and he made the ultimate sacrifice
2526 when he was killed in the line of duty during a shootout on a
2627 street in Levelland; and
27- WHEREAS, Josh Bartlett shared 18 years of marriage with his
28- cherished wife, Rebecca, and they were blessed with three

2930 children; their oldest son, Zachary, their middle son,
3031 Christian, and their youngest son, Logan, will carry on their
3132 father's love of mead-making, music, and baseball; and
3233 WHEREAS, Esteemed by his colleagues in the sheriff's
3334 office, respected by members of the community, and beloved by
3435 friends and loved ones, Josh Bartlett inspired many through his
3536 bravery and his lifelong devotion to his fellow citizens; he
3637 leaves behind memories that will long be treasured by all who
3738 were privileged to share in his life; now, therefore, be it
3839 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3940 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
4041 condolences to the bereaved family of Sergeant Joshua Blake
4142 Bartlett; and, be it further
4243 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4344 his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4445 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4546 memory of Josh Bartlett.
