55 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
66 commemorates the life of Marilyn Antoinette Walton, who died
77 September 7, 2021, at the age of 71; and
88 WHEREAS, Marilyn Walton was born on March 1, 1950, and she
99 was raised by her parents on a firm foundation of love, laughter,
1010 and learning in the Fairpark and Singing Hills neighborhoods of
1111 Dallas; she discovered and explored her dynamic musical talents
1212 as a young girl, and she went on to develop a six-octave vocal
1313 range that captivated audiences around the globe; and
1414 WHEREAS, Marilyn earned a bachelor of science degree from
1515 Elmhurst College and a master's degree in political science from
1616 The University of Texas at Arlington; she spent her days in the
1717 late 1970s teaching history at John McDonough High School in the
1818 New Orleans Parish School System and her nights performing at
1919 jazz clubs in the French Quarter and Tremé; and
2020 WHEREAS, The esteemed vocalist displayed her incredible
2121 skill by performing on stages across the Americas, Europe, and
2222 China; she also lived in Russia for several years working as an
2323 administrative liaison for the United States, teaching opera for
2424 the Russian Ministry of the Arts, and serving a residency as the
2525 chief vocalist for the Russian Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra; and
2626 WHEREAS, Marilyn found additional success as a
2727 businesswoman through her management of the Marilyn Walton
2828 Entertainment Group; she was a devoted advocate for social and
2929 economic justice and a favored performer at the First Baptist
3030 Church of Dallas, and she remained a loyal member of Alpha Kappa
3131 Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, throughout her life; and
3232 WHEREAS, A woman of incomparable grace, talent, and
3333 charm, Marilyn Walton was a treasured Texan and a cherished
3434 friend to many; she will long be remembered with respect and
3535 admiration by all who were privileged to share in her life;
3636 now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th
3838 Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
3939 condolences to the bereaved family of Marilyn Antoinette Walton;
4040 and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
4242 her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
4343 Senate and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
4444 memory of Marilyn Antoinette Walton.
