5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |

6 | 6 | | commemorates the life of Marilyn Antoinette Walton, who died |

7 | 7 | | September 7, 2021, at the age of 71; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Marilyn Walton was born on March 1, 1950, and she |
---|
9 | 9 | | was raised by her parents on a firm foundation of love, laughter, |
---|
10 | 10 | | and learning in the Fairpark and Singing Hills neighborhoods of |
---|
11 | 11 | | Dallas; she discovered and explored her dynamic musical talents |
---|
12 | 12 | | as a young girl, and she went on to develop a six-octave vocal |
---|
13 | 13 | | range that captivated audiences around the globe; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Marilyn earned a bachelor of science degree from |
---|
15 | 15 | | Elmhurst College and a master's degree in political science from |
---|
16 | 16 | | The University of Texas at Arlington; she spent her days in the |
---|
17 | 17 | | late 1970s teaching history at John McDonough High School in the |
---|
18 | 18 | | New Orleans Parish School System and her nights performing at |
---|
19 | 19 | | jazz clubs in the French Quarter and Tremé; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The esteemed vocalist displayed her incredible |
---|
21 | 21 | | skill by performing on stages across the Americas, Europe, and |
---|
22 | 22 | | China; she also lived in Russia for several years working as an |
---|
23 | 23 | | administrative liaison for the United States, teaching opera for |
---|
24 | 24 | | the Russian Ministry of the Arts, and serving a residency as the |
---|
25 | 25 | | chief vocalist for the Russian Bolshoi Symphony Orchestra; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Marilyn found additional success as a |
---|
27 | 27 | | businesswoman through her management of the Marilyn Walton |
---|
28 | 28 | | Entertainment Group; she was a devoted advocate for social and |
---|
29 | 29 | | economic justice and a favored performer at the First Baptist |
---|
30 | 30 | | Church of Dallas, and she remained a loyal member of Alpha Kappa |
---|
31 | 31 | | Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, throughout her life; and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, A woman of incomparable grace, talent, and |
---|
33 | 33 | | charm, Marilyn Walton was a treasured Texan and a cherished |
---|
34 | 34 | | friend to many; she will long be remembered with respect and |
---|
35 | 35 | | admiration by all who were privileged to share in her life; |
---|
36 | 36 | | now, therefore, be it |

37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 87th |

38 | 38 | | Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere |

39 | 39 | | condolences to the bereaved family of Marilyn Antoinette Walton; |

41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
